Garbage left outside at HHI-What to do?

Ummm I disagree, I have never stayed anywhere expecting guests to take their own trash out. If this is expected in DVCs, after well over 20 bags of trash left in front of my door. I had no idea this is/was not allowed.

It is common place to leave your trash outside your door. It is not common place to stay in a resort and take your own trash out.

I disagree. Any of the condo resorts in Orlando have trash rooms and expect guests to remove their own trash. DVC are the same type of resort and have similar expectations. It is a very different philosophy to staying in a Hotel room.

It's pretty clear that there is no housekeeping at DVC resorts, except for scheduled days for trash and towel service, or full cleaning days, or on a cash reservation.

I wouldn't expect housekeeping to come by to pick up trash when no service is scheduled.

And leaving trash outside your door where it could attract insects and critters is not something I do at home, nor at a resort. It's called a home-away-from-home resort, and that's the way I treat it -like my home.

We have not stayed at HH, however, I've always assumed they are outside hallways like SSR and OKW. If this is the case, I'm very surprised a "critter" didn't find that bag of trash and rip it apart, especially at HHI where I'm assuming wildlife is pretty abundant. I also think as DVC has grown over the years certain things have not been discussed or possibly neglected during the sales meeting, but, I distinctly remember when we purchased in 2001 our guide telling us about the trash rooms in each building or each floor and that, except for trash and towel days it would be our responsibility to dispose of trash in the trash room if we wished it removed daily. We've never had a problem with it and take our trash to the trash room on our way out in the morning (on the trips when we're cooking regularly and it needs to be removed daily). I do feel a big part of this issue comes from the fact there are so many renters these days who have no idea what they should or should not be doing.

We can all think what we want but if the policy isn't clearly stated to everyone staying in a DVC room, then there is no policy and people will do what they want, right or wrong.

A tent card placed in the room listing DVC room policies would help with several issues.

To the OP who states "have never stayed at a resort where guests expected to take out trash". I totally agree with that statement IF you are staying at a resort where daily housekeeping is included, however, DVC regulations are specific in that trash and towel days are included ONLY on specific days of your stay. As I stated, I believe a huge part of the problem is either people renting who do not know that OR possibly owners who have not been informed of that. I do think a VERY VISIBLE tent card placed on a kitchen counter near the trash can may help this issue....... As for our family.....we will continue to take our own trash daily. And I do agree, it is very unpleasant to walk by rooms with trash outside the door.......we have witnessed it much more frequently at all of the onsite WDW DVC resorts over the past three or four years.

Totally agree :thumbsup2

And FWIW, MANY people who stay at DVC villas either through CRO or via renting do not realize that it's a timeshare, whether or not housekeeping is/is not included. If you read the TA reviews, this is pretty obvious.

Honestly taking the garbage out to the container instead of the hallway, to me is as understood, as flushing toilets, etc.

I don't think a message will help.

Now I agree that letting everyone know where the Trash Rooms are located is a good idea and could use improvement.

I cannot be the only one not told.. :confused3

I'm confused as to how grown adults should need told to tidy up after themselves.

The key point is staying at a Condo resort is entirely different to staying In a Hotel room and in fact DVC provides much more services than most condo resorts. The lake buena vista resort and spa and the Sheraton Vistana resort on the 535 are both condos and neither provide any in room services for the duration of your stay. Even if you stay 3 weeks there is no house keeping provided whatsoever. You are provided with a vacuum and with towels but if you want them cleaned you wash them yourself. Taking out trash etc is expected of all guests and they are not told this but the fact that the resort maps include trash rooms means people figure it out for themselves. I have never ever seen people putting trash outside their rooms other than at a DVC resort.

This is a habit that is really annoying to me. I agree that most guests seem to be considerate enough to follow the rules.

Even guests that leave trash outside of rooms out of ignorance should figure out after stepping over their trash for a couple of days that maybe the "trash fairy" will not appear to whisk it away. A little common sense would go along way here.

BUT...We are talking about a timeshare. Most timeshares don't even have trash and towel....you are expected to remove your own trash. Even if I was in a hotel room, I would NOT expect to leave my trash out in the hall. It's just not being considerate of others.

But others have reported that they were told by Disney to leave their trash in the hall and that Disney would pick it up.

Looks like "trash in the hall" is one of those "smoking", "occupancy", "RFID mug", special topics. :goodvibes

Trash in the hallway is not only unsightly it is also dangerous as are leaving trays on the floor for room service to pick up (DH tripped over one on last trip at BLT) and folks leaving their scooters in the hallway (BWV) to charge them. What if there was a fire? Please be considerate and keep your stuff in your villa.
