Gangs at Disneyland

It seems that everyone here is forgetting that there is a vicious gang that frequents DL...They are called the "Stroller Mamas"...For fear of retribution all I am going to say about them is...Watch your ankles. ;)

My last encounter with the dreaded STROLLER, was driven by a man, so I will include to this list the "Stroller Daddies". Now, back on subject security at and around Disneyland is great. I have never felt un-comfortable there. I do travel alone, sometimes. I have felt un-safe at both Magic Mountain and at Knott's. With that said, my philosophy is, if you look for trouble you will find it. Keep aware of your surroundings and avoid things (people) who give you a bad vibe. You can have a great time MOST anywhere. :tink:

I think we just hit on Disney's hidden marketing strategy. They can charge more than other theme parks because of that priceless safety and security factor we all crave.

Sorry Tinkcollector, you are right, I fogot about that sub-set, equally deadly. The ones you really have to look out for are the peewees...Nothing more dangerous than a 4-year-old moving at top speed with a stroller. :scared:

we have commented about how well the American teenagers behave compared to the British ones and we have never ever heard the "F" word over there, unless it was from somebody British, which I am ashamed to say.

it's funny, just the other day i was saying how polite british kids seem compared to the teens of america (i'm a young adult librarian, so i'm not putting kids down; it's just how they are!)

I have never been to Legoland, but the only "gang" I can imagine there would be Spanky's bunch, since there is really nothing there for anyone over 10. ;)

Remember that WDW is a city of its own, whereas the entire Disneyland Resort is about 2 square miles in the middle of a suburb. It is definitely safe, even at night in the immediate area (within a mile). There really aren't any gangs, but there can be crime anywhere.

Knott's has more thrill rides and so attracts more older teens, but there were no gangs when we were there. It is still in a pretty good area not far from DL.

Universal is in Hollywood and I would not want to spend the night in that neighborhood, just a day trip from DL. There is not much for younger kids to do, but it was great when we were there.

DH took our 20-something kids to Magic Mountain last summer. No gangs, but definitely a rougher crowd. I would not take younger kids or anyone that might be intimidated by that type of behavior.

The tourist areas of San Diego are also fine. I am not aware of gangs but again, there can be crime anywhere so just be careful as you would traveling to any city. I don't really think there are any more gangs than in other cities with large populations.

Hmmm. The Snow White Dope Strolla Snipas are going to cap those achilles tendons of yours with their Gracos.

There's gangs at my school. There's gangs at my cousin's schools. There's gangs at the mall. There's gangs at target. They're everywhere! (like the pink elephants. :rolleyes2 ) I'm sure gang members have attended DL at some point, but I've never, ever felt threatened there. I think they save that for the street :)

Is any beach better than another to go, or safer? We are planning a trip for next year, to DL, Legoland, Universal, Bev Hills/Hollywood, and a beach...not sure which one. We'll be going w/our DDs then aged 5.5yo and 3yo. Just want to take them to a beach for a day to hang out. Which would you recommend.

You would have seen it on the news too I would imagine, not just the DIS. NEWSFLASH: "Two new gangs moved into Anaheim today! One calls themselves the Mick's and wear only red and yellow short pants. The other are called the Goofs and wear green hats with long ears! They are very hostile toward one another so please be alert and be sure not to wear GANG COLORS in the vicinity!"

:rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao:

Ella1: I have heard plenty of F-bombs from Americans on this property. :)

And to the OP, have a wonderful trip! Being aware of your surroundings is not a crime, it's smart. I am from the big city and moved to Oraldno a couple of years ago; I think Orlando is rougher than Philly, but it could be a size issue. You know if someone says something you aren't interested in, the proper response is "next." :teeth: Have a great time at DL!

:lmao: Funny... It never occured to me to look for gangs at my happy place. :rotfl2: Although it shocks me that it would take place at Knotts also. What city do you live in? I think all citys big or small have some form of gang actitvity, and all have crime. Show precaution as you always would. :thumbsup2

I like Huntington Beach meself. You may want to stay away from Venice Beach, I love it, but I don't think it's the best beach for the little kids.

there's a place in long beach called mother's beach. it's a nice little "beach", w/sand & water, but no waves! it's got a park w/jungle gym, slide type aparatys, shade, grass area for picnic, and of course, the "beach". it's a nice little hang out place to take little ones. i've taken my own DSs several times! there's parking on the street, so bring quarters! if you're intersted...i can get the address for you. (i'm at work, don't have that info w/me...) :flower:

I was shocked to see this thread title! I live 15 min from D-land. Everyone in my neighborhood has annual passes and spends enormous amounts of time there. My daughter learned to walk inside California Adventure, the old folks do ballroom dancing every Sat. night. It is one of the safest places to take/send your kids. All our friends and neighbors meet for dinner and a parade or show - it couldn't be a nicer place. Downtown Disney is a lovely fun place to walk around too. The hotels have fun restaurants. Newport Beach is a beautiful place as well as Laguna Beach. These places are nothing like what you see on TV (the OC & Laguna Beach) and esp. that horrible show on Bravo about the real OC. You will not see any gangs in Disneyland - Ok maybe a gang of dwarfs. My entire life I've seen more strange rumors about Orange County than I can believe. Come and enjoy!!!!!! You'll fall in love just like the rest of us paying unreal real estate prices to live here.

O.K. off topic but since there are a lot of Califonians on this thread - How is legoland? We have a son 5 and daughter 11. My husbands main thing for going to California is Legoland, never been there. Of course we are doing everything else but just want to know what to expect from that park.

We have had annual passes to Legoland off and on since it opened in 1999. I can say equivocally that there is no "gang" activity at Legoland. As a previous poster stated, Legoland is geared to the 2-10 year old set and those others that love Legos (aka DH!). There is not one thing there to entice a gang member through the gates. Your son (and your husband) will love Legoland! For your daughter I suggest you sign up for Mindstorms. It is in the Imagination Zone. Go first thing in the morning to sign up for a time slot as it fills up quickly. Mindstorms is a 45 minute session using/building computer controlled Legos. It is limited to guests 9 and up. DD10 and DD11 did this last weekend with DH and they had a blast. They actually only left the Imagination Zone once all day. (There was a Thomas the Tank and Bob the Builder promo going on that day and the park was unusually full of the 2-5 year old set.)

Note: DH just came in and saw what I was typing. This was his comment about gangs at Legoland - :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao:

Doombuggy,
I can honestly say that we have never heard the F word at all in Orlando or Anaheim (or any parks we have visited) by American teenagers or adults, we have heard it used many times by our fellow Brits though!!
Love Ella

Only gang I've ever seen at DL is this really weird one. They are all very short, wear colorful pointy hats, and most of them have long white beards. I think they run a prostitution ring because they are always running around saying "Hi Ho" all the time.

Yes, those guys are pretty scary! And that chick they hang with... :lmao:

Disneyland truly is the happiest place on earth - you won't see any gangs there. HOWEVER -- steer clear of Magic Mountain (aka "Thug Mountain"). It's a punk-infested dump!
