Gangs at Disneyland

I can understand where Lola is coming from. I grew up in Wisconsin as well. As a kid all I ever heard on the news was stuff about gang shoot outs in California. After experiencing getting lost in a Chicago Ghetto once, I was pretty scared to go to California the first time. I had visions of gangs trying to get to our cars while sitting on the freeway. Once I got there I realized it really wasn't that different from anywhere else, but I can understand where her concern lies. If you've never visited somewhere, you just don't know. So don't be too hard on her! :) I am very comfortable in California now and my hubby and I drive there often (we live much closer now). We are cautious in L.A. and I would never take a child to Six Flags, but other than that I feel very safe there! And Lola, I don't feel like the Anaheim area is any less safe than Milwaukee, if that helps.

Thanks, for the support. I was starting to think it must have been a really dumb question to ask :rolleyes1 I got lost once in baaad Chicago area once also and we felt like the Griswald's in National Lampoons vacation. "Roll em up". I just love the Disney area! I live in a suburb in Waukesha county very peaceful, so I guess when I am out of that area I feel out of my element even some parts of Milwaukee which I never go near! I guess when you have kids your just more protective!! But to me it sounds like DisneyLand is O.K. area as is San Diego we will be sure to steer clear of Magic Mountain, bummer though, those coasters there look awesome, too bad it is overrun by thugs.

Don't worry, Lola. It sounds like you will be cautious which is all you need. Doesn't sound like you are the type to be out at 3am in neighborhoods with bars over all their doors and windows. Personally, I would visit MM to ride the big coasters, but make it a day trip rather than a night excursion. The coasters are fun and teens, especially, love them. My kids are too little so I haven't been for a while. MM has always had the reputation as being overrun by thugs. I can't remember the last news story about any problem there. Just be a bit more cautious than you would be at DL and don't flash any gang signs (just kidding). That said, if you want a more beautiful area of Southern California, visit San Diego. It's gorgeous and has more touristy places full of sun, spanish history, and fun.
