DD has several Wii and DS games that she no longer plays with so we are thinking about bringing them to Gamestop for a tradein...How does this work?

Its really not worth it. try selling on craigslist, you would get a better deal. and instead of buying a game next time, get a subscription to gamefly.com for the price of one game you can rent games for 2 months, and you don't have the hassle of selling games when your DD gets tired of the games.

put them on craigslist or ebay.. i recently was offered around $2/each for some games i tried trading in on xbox 360

You can get OK money for brand new games but very little for older things if they'll even take them. The Movie Trading Company takes trade ins too.

you only get about 50% or less that what they resell it for. Some titles get very little because of the amount of copies that are traded in constantly. Sometimes it can be worth you while if they're doing a special promo with like an extra 20% or more on your trade in, but that's only if you take the store credit. And now into the holiday season you'll find buy 2 get 1 free on used items. Which might make it worth your while for trade in. But you've really got to pay attention to what you've got and the deals going on.

You'll probably have better luck selling them on ebay or craig's list for cash. Look at the going rate on ebay. Search the title with "completed listings".

My sons just recently took 10 of the games they don't play anymore (for XBox and Wii) to trade in for credit as there were 2 new games coming out that they wanted.

They got $120 credit (way more than they were expecting) which paid for one new game the one week and the second new game the next week. I thought that was a pretty good deal.

Last week we traded in a bunch of games & 2 DSlites to Gamestop and Amazon. Total was around $200 and I'm talking old games like gameboy games not just wii. Gamestop's running an extra percentage right now, it's on their website. I did Amazon for the second batch, it was less money but we didn't need anymore Gamestop credit. It was super easy to do, and they even paid for shipping. If you search the games you want to trade in on Amazon, there's a link on the right hand side of the page that walks you through the process. I have no time for
eBay or craigslist right now, so it was worth it for us.

There's a way to get it to work to your advantage. DH this does this often and he hasn't paid full price for a video game in *forever*. He has the game stop "rewards" type card. I think it's 14.99 but you get a year or Game Informer magazine, so depending how you look at it, either the magazine or the membership is free. This card also gets you an extra 10% on your trades (including hardware/consoles). Game Stop often has deals where you get an extra percentage on your trade in if you trade it in toward a new upcoming release, these are usually the "pre-sells" they tell you about at the register. Also, DH gets emails from Game Stop and on certain days or weekends you get an extra percentage (usually 20-30%) extra on your trade ins. He's often gotten an extra 40% on the trade in value.
:thumbsup2

On the other hand, Toys R Us has a HORRIBLE trade program.
