I can remember spending our days and evenings outdoors. These are a few of the games/songs that I can remember from my childhood.

Red Light /Green Light
Mother May I
Hopscotch
Jump Rope - anyone remember any of the songs that were sung while jumping
Tag

Miss Mary Mack, Mack, Mack All dressed in black, black, black...
Found a Peanut, Found a Peanut, Found a Peanut last night...

If our kids were ever heard singing these songs now:rolleyes:

We also spent most of our time outside. One of our favorite summertime games was flashlight tag. We also played a lot of games in the pool like Marco Polo and diving for pennies.

Jump rope song:

Not last night but the night before
Twenty four robbers came knocking at my door
As I ran out
And right back in
I asked them what they wanted
And this is what they said
Tiny dancer do a split
Tiny dancer give a high kick
Tiny dancer turn around
Tiny dancer touch the ground
Split, kick around and ground
Salute to your Captain
Courtsey to your Queen
And turn your back on the dirty sardine.

ROTFLOL! I can't believe I rememberd that but it made me smile a huge smile while I was typing it up!

Don't forget Hide and Seek
Four Square
Tag
Freeze Tag
Kick the Can!
Simon Says

Mother May I was my favorite. :cloud9:

Don't have a clue what this "song" was about, nor how to spell any of it. Always wonder what became of the girl who taught it to me at camp one summer...

Flea (flea)
Fly (fly)
Flow (flow)
Vista (vista)

Koom-a-lotta-koom-a-lotta-koom-a-lotta-vista
(Koom-a-lotta-koom-a-lotta-koom-a-lotta-vista)

Oh, no, no, no, no, no vista
(oh, no, no, no, no, no vista)

Eenie-meenie-deci-meenie-oohwatcha-wanna-meenie-exi-meenie-sauna-meenie-oohwatcha-wah
(Eenie-meenie-deci-meenie-oohwatcha-wanna-meenie-exi-meenie-sauna-meenie-oohwatcha-wah)

Ok, so that's just weird, I know. But your post reminded me of it. :teeth:

Marco!!!!! Polo!!!!!!!

As a child it's a blast, as a parent, aunt, uncle, babysitter etc listening to it, it's a nightmare. LOL!

We loved playing volley ball in the pool, making whirl pools in the pool, pretending we were mermaids. Ahhhh, to be young again. :cloud9:

I used to spend the day in the pool. At lunch time my mom would call me over to the back door. She'd hand me a little brown paper bag with my lunch in it ... a half a sandwich and a plum, or a peach or an apple. The sandwich woud be wrapped in wax paper. I'd go over to the picnic table with my dog and eat my picnic lunch in the sun. :cloud9: Then she'd dig through the "junk drawer" and find me a dime for a fancy ice cream or a nickel for a Dixie Cup from the Good Humor man when he came rolling around, ringing his bells. No wonder I love my mom so much. :cloud9:

Dodge ball
Tether ball
Four Square
Red rover, red rover, send Karen right over!

I remember trying to master those hand games - the ones where you had a partner? I couldn't do them now if I tried, but they were great fun!

I also remember hopscotch, playing baseball in the street, double rope jumping (dutch I believe?)etc. I spent most of my time outside on my bike - loved to ride that thing!

Does anyone remember this old song?

My hat, it has three corners.
Three corners, has my hat.
And had it not three corners.
It would not be my hat!

It has hand motions to it, pointing to:
head for "hat"
chest for "my"
elbow for "corner"
and holding up 3 fingers for "three"

We'd sing it all the way through once, using the hand motions. Then each time you sing it after that, you take away one of the hand motion words, but keep doing the motions.

Anyone remember it? Anyone????

do ya'll remember playing with the yarn to make loops or knots or stick your hand in or something like that? I vaguely remember something like that that my gran taught me.

I remember this one but not from MY childhood but from my DS. Barney(the Purple dinosaur) would always have that song on.

Kick the can - we spent hours playing this at night

Jump rope song:

A my name is Alice and my boyfriend's name is Adam we come from Arizona and we sell apples

B my name is barbara and my boyfriends name is Bob, we come Boston and we sell books

C my name is .... and my boyfriends name is ...., we come from ....and we sell _____

etc.

We taught the kids how to play Marco Polo last week at the motel pool. They loved it. DS4 doesn't keep his eyes closed and then we kept going into the deep end to get away from DD8. It was funny! :sunny:

I liked Ghost in the Graveyard

ohhh thank you Buzzlady :) I'm glad I wasn't playing with yarn for no reason...others did too

Barney plays the "My Hat it has Three Corners" song?!?!? That's awesome! My dd is 21yo and my ds is just shy of turning 20, so I haven't ever *had* to watch Barney, thank goodness! haha I'm glad to know that a whole new generation is learning that song, though! Yea Barney!

My kids love to play Slug Bug or aka: punch buggy, we had to stop the slugging they were starting to hurt my arm-lol!

Ghost in the Graveyard is a nightime tag game. Everyone hides and the "ghost" tries to find them. When the "ghost" is spotted by a player they yell "GHOST IN THE GRAVEYARD!!!" and every body runs to home base without getting tagged.

Ding Dong Ditch is a simple game of ringing your neighbors doorbell and then hiding.

I taught these favorites to my kids 5 & 8 along with their neighborhood friends. Seeing a group of a dozen kids playing ditch and trying to be funny is priceless.
