DS6 and DD4 both have Gameboys and enjoy them. Suddenly I am considering getting a GameCube. I don't know a lot about video game systems, but I do know that Gamecube's price has lowered and there are some good deals tomorrow. I know that DS has mentioned his friend having PlayStation 2 (and the fact that he would like one, too), but I know that I have read that GameCube has more for younger children.

I guess part of me thinks that their having GameBoy should be enough. But then part of me says if I can get a great deal on GameCube...:scratchin

So, all of you knowledgeable gamers of the DIS, answer me a couple of questions. Is it really advantageous to have a GameBoy and something else (GameCube, PlayStation, XBox) or can this be too much of a good thing? Also, are these systems going to be out of date soon? I'd hate to buy one of these systems (along with games, accessories, etc.) only to find that I should've waited until DS's April birthday because of something new on the horizon. Also, what kind of accessories are needed with the GameCube?

Thank you, thank you to any and all who answer! This is such a great place! :D

We're a Nintendo family, so the Game Cube was a natural purchase for my kids. And I'm a bit biased towards that particular gaming system. There are advantages and disadvantages to all of the game systems, but my kids have been very happy with their Game Cube. And you can't beat the price right now, especially if you can grab one at Wal-Mart when they open tomorrow morning.

My son has a Play Station 2 and a X Box , he still asked for a Game Cube for his birthday . We bought it and it is now his favorite . He said it has great games the others dont have .

Good Luck

Go for it...but save yourself the trouble and order it on-line, in your jammies! No lines, and a lot of places are offering free shipping. Our kids love theirs, and are BIG nintendo fans also. I have noticed, however, that the selection of games at the video store keeps getting larger and larger for PS2, and that system lets you play DVD's as well.....but $99 is a pretty good deal. Another $ saver...we buy the kids the previously viewed games from Blockbuster at half or better of the orig. price. They have a 30 warranty if you get it home and it isn't working right, but we have never run into that yet.

I forgot....order the wireless "wavebird" controllers from Wal-mart...they are totally worth the $! No cords in the way, or in the CAR! Plus the basic system only comes controller anyway, so you will need to purchase another anyway.:D

DH and I just went through this very situation. DS (5) has a gameboy and he's been asking for "one of those things you can play games on the TV" We set out to purchase a gamecube. But after talking to a few of DH's friends and a few people at Best Buy, we opted for PS2. Yea, its twice as much money. But there will be a PS3, where Nintendo is done making game systems. Most of the games are made for all systems and we did find quite a few games for DH's age for PS2. And at Best Buy when PS3 comes out you can bring your PS2 back and they will give you whatever you paid for PS2 toward your purchase of PS3. Good Luck, its a huge investment no matter what!

We have an Xbox (which my daughter won), and we got a GameCube through a family member.

The Xbox died, so we thought we would go with the Gamecube.
My kids HATE the Gamecube, and begged us to spend the money to fix the Xbox.

I know what you mean. I want an XBOX because of the great bundle they are selling. But we already have the Cube & PS2.

I say GO FOR IT!!!! If they like their GBA they will fight over that CUBE. What can I say, its darn FUN!!! No comparison. I can't stand the GBA because it is just too small. (OK, so I am old)
And you can get a cable and use the GBA as a controller however I have yet to do that.

CindyB....What games do they PLAY???? I really want to know. I REALLY NEED a reason to but that bundle PACK!:teeth:

Well we have Luigis Mansion and Crazy Taxi for the Gamebcue plues the exttra controller. They don't like those games...

We offered to buy them a different gamecube games, but they told me that they would rather us fix the Xbox than buy new gamecube games.

We both got the systmes (xboxand GC) for gifts, so it wasn't like we invested cash into it.

We only paid $50 for the repair fo the Xbox... (it was less than a year old )

I was just reading it and realized that you may have wanted to know what Xbox games they play..

my sons favorite is Amped . We also have Fuzion Frenzy, Crash Bandicoot, and one more.

I say go for it. My boys have gameboys, game cube, X-box, and PS2. They like the GC and the X-box the best. The PS2 they are getting ready to trade in this weekend. GC would be good for your kids because they have more games geared toward kids, and the bundles they have out now are a great deal. :)

The Game Cube has recently dropped its price so if you want to get it I say go ahead and get it now before the price goes back up...if it goes back up. I don't know if it's a permenant thing or not. I do think GCs are better for younger kids though.

Where did you get this information??

DH works at nintendo, and they are currently working on designing a next generations system.

Of course, it may or may not come out, but I think it would be awfully strange for them to be working on a system they don't plan on releasing.

I like the gamecube because of the Mario series as well as Zelda. We have Playstation 2 also. My son wants the xbox, but I think the two are enough for now.

DH and DD love their gamecube. The other option on gamecube is to by the extra 'extension' part and play your GBA games on the cube.

Thanks for saying that, Believe. I told my SO yesterday I think our ds will be able to play his gameboy games on the gamecube he's getting for Christmas, but I couldn't remember if it was the gamecube he could do that with or something else.:)

I bought the Gamecube online from Walmart.com on Thursday, for the Black Friday price.

My DH has a Playstation that I bought when I managed a software/game system store...we have about 2 dozen racing type games that I got for him, and now about 4 or 5 games we bought for the kids.

Older DS has a GBA and he's a Mario addict! We decided that since both kids now play with both systems, we'll get a cube with some Mario games, and another GBA for younger DS for those road trips to WDW.

I'll be buying the extension thing for the cube so that they can play the GBA games on the bigger screen. Right now, older son is getting rewards for good grades by getting games for the GBA. He's got a form of autism, and his fixation is these games. I can get lots of good behavior out of 'get over 90's for 2 weeks straight and we'll let you pick a game'!

::yes:: Well, I did it! I went to Wal-Mart Friday morning :crowded: and purchased a GameCube. Now I will try and figure out about accessories and which games would be good to get. I'm excited! Thanks to everyone for the advice!

You should be very pleased:D ! DS is 12 and has had his 2 years and still loves it. He wants 4 new games for Christmas of course ;) ! Nintendo is THE game system company and that is what they do! The other systems are made by companies that make many other items. Have fun buying games:cool: ! DS can always find many games he wants for his.::yes::
