Gamecube: which games for an 8 year old boy?

Hi, Clueless grandma here. I bought my DGS8 a Gamecube for Christmas, along with the first Lego Star Wars game (which was on his list), and a memory card.

I am wondering what other Gamecube games an 8 year old boy would like, that are not too difficult. He's a smart kid, but I'd like to get age appropriate games. He loves animals and wanted Nintendogs, but alas, they don't make that game for Gamecube.

Any suggestions on games?

My DS8 wants Animal Crossing for his Gamecube. He also likes the Zelda series games. I like the Mario games because they are pretty wholesome.

Another vote for Animal Crossing and Zelda. My boys also really enjoy Monkey Ball and any Mario games (especially Mario Sunshine-oldie but goodie). These are the ones that keep getting played year after year.

The games that are related to the newest movie out (Over the Hedge etc.) are often kinda lame and they don't play them that much--they want them but then they only play them a few times. I don't know about Lego Star Wars--we'll see soon as my son has also asked for it for Christmas.

My 9 year old son likes spyro games and pokemon games. He also really likes harvest moon, it's a farming game where the player takes care of a farm.

I think that mario games would be a good general choice and age appropriate.

I agree with Animal Crossing. Also look for It's A Wonderful Life games.

My DS-8 has gamecube and his favorites are Madden 2006 and Lego Starwars I and II. DD who is loves Animal crossing and Harvest Moon.

I have three sons... 10, 7, 5.

I recommend, based on what they love:

Mario Kart Double Dash
Disney Extreme Skating Adventure
Dance Dance Revolution, Mario Mix
Crazy Taxi (but this is rated T, I think... we are VERY picky about games.. and it passes our standards)


I've drawn a blank.. and can't think of more.

If your grandson likes football, my kids love

madden 07, and NFL Street

I will also recommend anything Mario, as very age appropriate. We have the zelda collectors edition, with four zelda games on it, starting with the classic.. and they love Zelda too.

Well, you already got alot of great suggestions, but I thought I'd add a couple that my boys like. They have Super Monkey Ball (there's a couple of those, like Super Monkey Ball 2, etc.), they play it the most, that and Crash Tag Team Racing. They also like Pacman, Pikman (sp?). For Christmas we got them Cars and the first Lego Star Wars (that one they had played at a friends' house and liked).

Mario is always a good choice, too. Whatever you get, I would suggest getting at least one that can be played two player if he has siblings or friends come over they can play together.

Lots of good suggestions...my DS8 also loves the Star Wars and Mario games that he has...He plays Zelda a lot too.

I second Mario Kart and Madden, my DS8 loves these games....as do my neices and nephews. Another of his favorites are the Tak games, The Great JuJu Challenge and Staff of Dreams.

Hi, Is there a user friendly list of Gamecube games that says which games are multiplayer? The Nintendo site is horrible. You have to keep clicking page after page to get to the middle of the alphabet.

After I finally made it to the "L" page, looks like the Lego Star Wars I bought is two-player. Whew! I was beginning to worry that I didn't buy any multi-player games. I also bought DGS Animal Crossing (he loves animals) and Super Mario Sunshine (I saw he checked off in one of the catalogs). I think we will also look into buying used games and even renting some, so I really appreciate all the suggestions. This looks like it will be a fun adventure.
