I can answer the "Where's the fire?" question...in TEXAS! There are 15 fires burning in counties surrounding ours right now...numerous others to the north and east of us. One of the fires, not far from here, covers 14,000 acres and has already burned 300 homes...this afternoon. :sad2: My cousins daughter and her husband were evacuated...don't know yet if one the homes lost was theirs. We're doing a lot of praying here tonight. :tink:

OMG, that's terrifying.

That's horrible about all your wild fires!!! It's so amazing how HOT how FAST a fire can travel!!! 300 homes lost?

Well, meanwhile, is your picture in Adventureland?

You may be right! :rotfl2: Haven't heard anything from cousin's daughter but DSIL's step-grandmother lost her home. They've evacuated well over 5,000 so far. :eek:

You're on the right track...my photo IS on Main Street! :yay: :tink:

I still don't know what it is. Is it at the Train Station on Main St?

Sorry it's taken me 6 hours to answer! Suffering from major "nervous stomach" here. :eek: God bless our volunteer fireman...they've just put out a fire in a wooded area about 5 miles from DD's home! :scared1: My worst nightmare. We've got some serious stuff going on around here...3 fires in our county today. Our volunteers have gone from assisting with fires in Columbus to assisting in Magnolia to serving our county also. They've just been called to Sealy to assist 3 other volunteer departments with a fire there. Why?.........
-we've had 5.83" of rain (in the Houston area) since February~temps 100 or above the past 35 days;
-State Forest officials estimate the Houston area has 6 million trees...there are approximately 1 million of those trees now dead;
-the 14,000 ac. fire I mentioned last night has grown to 25,000 acres with 476 homes burned (still haven't heard if cousin's daughter has a home left)~shelters for evacuees have had to be moved because of the advancing fire line~the smoke from that fire can be seen on radar extending down to the coast...140 miles away;
-there is now a major fire in Magnolia (35 miles NE of our home)...we can see and smell the smoke;
-on Sunday there were 32,000 acres on fire in Texas
-as of the first of the year, Texas has had 3 1/2 million acres burn; 2,980 homes (now 3,456) lost;
....our fire season BEGINS in November :scared1: Prayers needed.

Okay...you ARE correct...my photo was taken on Main Street looking toward the Train Station:

That is all so horrible!!! I hope your DD has her dogs packed and is someplace safe!! I hope she doesn't have to drive through a dead forest to get out. Fire is nature's way of cleaning up the dead stuff but, soooo dangerous!

Here is something to guess on and take your mind off it for a min.

She's packed and ready, if necessary. Just keep hoping things get under control. Does your picture have something to do with the Little Mermaid? Like maybe part of a float? :tink:

Not Little Mermaid. Not on a float. It's not moving, you are. ;)

Hope everyone makes it through the night there. At least it's cool tonight.

How about a clam-mobile...Nemo & Friends?

Fires still burning but it is mercifully cool this morning. :yay: Air smells of smoke though and a little hazy. Just visited with an exhausted neighbor (husband is a fireman) who's out gathering donations for her friend's family who lost their home this weekend. So sad. :sad2: :tink:
