I had thought Vero Beach for before the cruise....quite a few of the US Dis-sers love going to VB, even after WDW (no cruise).

I hadn't thought about Hilton Head...what do you recommend? You're not suggesting we drive? Not that I mind, I'm always up for a road trip....

There isn't a direct flight from Orlando to Savannah or HHH. 1 stop Connections for getting to HHH go through Charlotte.

If coming from NYC you could go direct to Savannah. Then drive south to Orlando

It's about a 5-6 hour drive from Orlando. Not a wildly exciting drive but simple enough. Very flat. But it's what we did as we were also going to Atlanta and Charleston etc.
Could have teaching lessons to those fearing driving taking turns :lmao:

BF went here doing short hop flights in Oct 08 but he was going to NASCAR land and other places so much more complicated.

Having a car in the area is a big advantage as the private pool club and the beach is on the other side of the road. Although you can hire a bike and take it over. The shops are nearby but you really need a car. As a DVC resort car is kind of assumed...

So either fly and drive or drive and drive...
Just a destination suggestion. :thumbsup2

The way I see it...you and I would drive at the very least.

So we would fly into NYC and then drive to Philly and maybe think about a side trip to Atlantic City...on second thoughts, given the statements about races and red roulettes; maybe no stop at AC....

I'd be keen to head to Gettysburg on the way to DC. And then the long drive drive drive....

What does anyone else think?

Gettysburg sounds good to me. I'm in for a road trip. And yes Queenie, feel free to give me a driving lesson :rotfl2:

Gettysburg is lovely. Williamsburg is also lovely.

As for driving....what have I gotten myself into

How about this...we'll rent a Chrysler Sebring and I'll just floor it with the roof down. Suit you?
Shushh and PIO can drive the vans with all our luggage and additional travelling companions. :thumbsup2:

Heeheehee, yes I'll be really experienced with van driving after my upcoming trip and besides I wouldn't want to muss up my hair in a car with the rood down...

I'm all in for a road trip. This will allow us to leave earlier and take the ABD tour. I'm getting there with the research. Will post some prices and dates shortly.

I can see that we are NOT :sad2: going to get along on the road trip at all! I'm more a red Chevy Corvette Cabriolet gal myself. You take the Chryster and I'll take the Chevy and race you to Gettysburg. :thumbsup2

BTW - Anyone know what car Thelma and Louise drove?

:rotfl2::rotfl2::lmao:
I'm not a sebring girl at all. I picked it because it is THE generic 'sportscar' in the rental lots. It's just hilarious :rotfl:
I thought given how much time you and I have spent in rental lots you might spot a joke...but it was very subtle.... ;)
I'm a Chevy girl....and...well...a Ferrari and Lamborghini girl :car:

Thelma and Louise drove a '66 Thunderbird.

*Ahem* Yes, subtlety seems to be getting us in trouble tonight. We've already picked up the "bully" tag tonight. :confused3

And no....I NEVER noticed the sebrings at all. I spend all my time in the safe family sedan sections.

It's YOUR fault!! All your fault...
Melbournians... :headache:

I reside in the Mini van section which is always near the 'special' cars like SUVS....and....well...you can always see over the row of SUVs can't you :rolleyes1 to the sportscars beyond....3 rows beyond... :upsidedow

Now now girls, any old expensive sportscar will do. I do worry about the hair thing though, but I'm willing to sacrifice in the hopes that we pick up Brad Pitt along the way. :lmao:

Am I the only one that finds it weird that the one with the longest hair ISN'T the one fretting about it getting messed up in a sportscar?

As for what car...I'm now thinking BUMBLEBEE!!!!!

If Grace can do it, I think I'll risk it.

Hmmm....I don't think blonde is a good colour on me....but if we're picking up Brad Pitt, then count me in!

I have wild curly hair most of the time so I am definitely the one who should worry about a convertible, but I'm thinking head scarf, won't that be an attractive look with my round face hahaha

:scratchin If we're travelling in convertibles, we're gonna need one more person to vote for our trip...that will add $25K to the kitty...and we can ALL drive a convertible EACH! ;)

(Queenie - you better dust out a good driving on the other side of the road lesson!)

So, come on....there MUST be a lurker out there reading this who is willing to cast a vote for our trip.....

....pretty please?

If nothing else, think about poor Brad Pitt out there needing a ride!

BTW - I'm thinking that we should convert some of the $$ into US currency. The commercial exchange rate is 1:1. If no one minds, I'm going to lock away 9 x $5K travel cards for us. We can change more if we need to...later.

Sounds like a plan. :cool1:

Okay. I used the exchange rate sheet from the CommBank website this morning, 7:31am (Australian EST) on 7/04/2011.

I've spent a total of $80K from our kitty and locked in the following:

1. AU$45K at an exchange of USD 1.0107 bought US$45,481.50 (about US$5K each)
2. AU$20K at an exchange of EURO 0.6913 bought EURO$13,826.00 (about EURO$1500 each)
3. AU$15K at an exchange of GBP 0.6128 bought us GBP $9,192.00 (about GBP$1000 each)

:cool1: :cool1:

From our original budget of $350K, we now have $270K for airfares, accommodation, food, tours/cruises and any other expenses.

It seems like such a wonderful and generous budget. We are totally going to be able to go first class dontcha think :lmao:.

Thanks for exchanging all the spending money, lots of money there for champers and food and christmas decorations :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Just need to work out who we need to bribe to get to stay in the Cinderella Dream Suite :scratchin:
