My daughter wants Game Boy for Christmas-Is Game Boy Advance the newest one out? Does anyone know if they have plans to release a newer one at Christmas? And what games are good for a 6 year old?-On playstation she plays Spongebob, Tak, Chicken Little and games like those...thanks! I want to get some gifts out of the way for Christmas!

The newest one came out last Christmas-the Nintendo DS. The Advance has been around for a while.

My kids have the newer version of the advance and ask for the DS, but still play with those advances constantly. There are plenty of games available for it, not sure how many are now available for the DS.

(I like that they come with chargers and I'm not constantly changing batteries)

There are some GBA Disney games that are good for young kids. When there's a Disney movie, it'll have a GBA game to go with it. They even have some Pooh themed games.

I read somewhere that a new Gameboy will be coming out, but I didn't catch the release date. There was a Gameboy Micro that was released in last December but that flopped.

This newer than the DS gameboy is smaller and thinner. I actually saw a picture of it as well. I can't remember the name but I think it starts with a N.

I was considering it (my older kids still like thier Gameboy) but wasnt sure if the GBA games will work on it.

The newer on is the Nintendo DS. My son loves his, and his GBA games work on it, but not the old GB games.

ahh...ok, so nintendo DS it would be...that is in color right?? I had a game boy when they first game out..it was black and white and pretty terrible LOL.

The newest ones are the Nintendo DS but the Nintendo DS Lite (which is basically smaller, lighter and has a brighter screen) comes out soon (not sure of release dates, esp in the US, sorry!). So you may want to wait a little if you can? Especially as there are likely to be special offers/packages when the Lite comes out.

Both the DS and the DS Lite will play DS games and GBA games and they both have two full colour screens (one works as a touchscreen to increase game interactivity).

The DS has been released in silver, pink and blue cases and the DS Lite I believe is only coming out in White (looks like an ipod lol!) and Black. Not that the colour of the case makes much difference I guess but may do to some kids lol!

Like I said, I knew a newer hardware was coming out. I thought I saw a picture of it in the Best Buy ad from Sunday's paper.

MY DS has the Nintendo DS and it's the well played game. He likes the Dogs which is very popular with teen girls too. DS has about 6 games for it. Don't know much about the "lite" one.

I seriously recommend getting a DS lite. I have a regular DS right now, but I won't upgrade, as I don't have the money. yes you can still play GBA games on it, and yes it came out recently. Games on their that I would recommend would be Animal Crossing and Nintendogs for younger kids and Wario Ware Touched. Other good games are Mario Kart, Metroid Prime Hunters, New Super Mario Bros. Some good games Games coming out will be a new Final Fantasy and Starfox. DS is much more kid friendly and family friendly than any other Nintendo product before now. They strive to reach the nongamer with the DS.

My daughter has the DS and her favorite games are Nintendogs and Animal Crossing. I myself am pretty addicted to Animal Crossing.

I just bought MYSELF the gameboy lite yesterday :) (It is $129)

Has your DD played a gameboy before? There are stores around here (Gamestop) that sell used older system (advanced, sp) gameboys for a discounted price. That is what we bought DD7 for her bd - an sp - to see if she would even play it. It was worth the $20 or so dollars we spent as she hasn't played it that much. Of course now she LOVES my ds and has played it more than me! (I also bought The Brain Academy game..)

Even if you buy new, try to find a local store that sells used games as the new ones can get quite pricey.
