My son is planning to ask santa for Pokemon for his Game Boy Advance...went to get it the other day and there are like 6 to choose from...

What is the difference? Which is better? He is 6 and is very good at video games.

Help me PLEASE!

DS9 is BIG into Pokemon - the fames and the cards. The newest ones are Fire Red and Leaf Green - they are re-makes of Red & Green so they have the old characters and some new ones. The re-makes are better, so says DS. He recommends Fire Red because Charzard is the better starter pokemon. (You can even trade from Pokemon Colleseum (sp?) on the Game Cube)

Another idea....if you have a used game store in your area they always have the Pokemon games for sale at a discounted price! The games before Fire Red & Leaf Green were Ruby & Sapphire.

This message was approved and partly written by my son - any other questions please ask! :)

I am a almost 40 year old Mom who speaks Pokemon fluently!

Is your son a good reader? Pokemon requires lots of reading. If he isn't, be prepared to play lots of pokemon together. I actually enjoy it and don't mind. DS had actually headed off to bed and told me to make sure I continue to play pokemon.

Pokemon Saphire and Ruby are the first ones. They are virtually the same with some small differences in wording.

Pokemon fire red and leaf green are the newest ones. I wouldn't bother with the other ones which are pinball and racing.

You could start with either the old ones or the new ones but you son't need both from the series as they are so similar. We have ruby and DS is getting leaf green for Christmas.

My DS plays these games the newest are Leafgreen and Fire Red the only difference in these games is the types of Pokemon that are in the games neither contains both but they can trade with other kids between the two games, these latest versions let you do that without a wire between the two games.

Actually, There were several Pokemon games before Saphire and Ruby. The first ones were Red, Yellow, and Blue. Then came Gold and Silver. Then came Sapphire and Ruby. Leaf Green and Fire Red are the newest incarnations.

The biggest vdifferences are in the characters that are available.

The games do require a lot of reading as previously stated.

My 7 year old plays them all (from her brother) and has no problem with the reading. She has been doing them for more than a year now. My kids have all of the games and they really like the new one.

If you are unsure of how the game will be for your child, go to Gamestop or another used game resaler and you can get the older ones for about $10.00. At least you can let them try it out and see if they like it.

Thanks JetMom. As my son is only 5 I guess I missed the earlier versions! We started with a gameboy advanced and those are the first ones I saw for that platform. I guess I need to brush up on my pokemon;)

Out of the ones that are out now, Ruby and Sapphire are the older ones. FireRed and LeafGreen are the newest and go back to the original Blue and Red ones from way back. My oldest DS taught himself to read by playing his "blue", so I think it is a great game. I would buy him either FireRed or LeafGreen as they are teh newest and are supposed to be real great. Both my boys are getting tehm for Christmas.

There have been many versions ~~
Red/Blue
Yellow
Gold/Silver
Crystal
Ruby/Sapphire
FireRed/LeafGreen

FireRed and LeafGreen also come with a wireless interface device which sells independently for $24.00! I was lucky enough to get LeafGreen for DS at Target a couple of weeks ago on sale for $26.99. When I saw the wireless link selling for $24.00 I felt I got a PokeBargain! BTW, if you have a Game Cube, with two wireless interfaces (one from each: FireRed & LeafGreen), you can use the Game Boy Advance SP as an additional Game Cube Controller.

And, Piglet too, you get the prize. Those are all the Pokemon versions and my son has each and every one of them:rolleyes:
Well, unless you count original Green, which was only available as an import. Some of the Asian children at my son's old school in NJ would bring back several of them from trips to Japan and sell them to the other kids but DS never got one of those.

I can't believe that the Pokemon trend is still with us. It must be approaching 10 years by now!

Oh Oh, I forgot about Crystal!! My DS's will disown me now!

My DS started playing the old ones (Blue, Red, and Yellow) about a year ago and LOVES them. We got them for around $10 at a local used game store.
