Gallbladder Surgery?

I'm going in Tuesday to get mine out, woohoo!!

I was supposed to be getting it out later today but my insurance company didn't want the operation done where I was scheduled to I had to change my plans around..

It's a "day surgery" and I'll go home an hour afterwards.

I was diagnosed in January with stones/needing to have the gallbladder taken out after two days worth of attacks like what you described, but I was pregnant so my first phone call was made to my OB's answering service and the oncall told me "Not to bother going to the ER it was just heartburn and there was nothing they could do for me, suck it up."
I went to the ER after the second day, I didn't care what the oncall said. Then I had to wait until I had my son.... and now sweet victory, they're taking it out!!

I've heard that it's nothing at all, but I've had three surgeries (most recently a c-section) so I'm not afraid of it...

Get a good surgeon, being comfortable with them makes all the difference in the world!!

My surgeon told me that I would have no issues resuming duties with my son after the surgery. My mom offered to take leave to help me and I told her it was up to her, as he said I wouldn't have issues.
My kid is 7wks old-- thats a lot of lifting/carrying a Piglet (he was 11lbs two weeks ago!)
I think he should have been more upfront that I would need to watch what I lifted, etc. Thanks for posting this, at least now I know to tell my mom to definitely take the leave!!!

My MIL had hers done. Hers was done lap, inpatient... well, outpatient, but she was a whiner. You would have thought the world was ending. She milked it for WEEKS! Now, I know she is an attention seeker, but after reading how everyone else "miraculously" recovered so quickly, it only convinces me more about my MIL's neediness!

we were at WDW, day of arrival, we had a dining "experience" (dinner) at Ohana's, walked around a bit and then went to the room.

Dw started haveing pains like the OP described, they got worse and worse (though it might be some bad food) we ended up calling a doctor to the room and he expressed and opinion that it was gall bladder.

got some meds and she felt much better, on advice of the doctor, avoided greasy and/or fried food.

got home and tested, sure enough doc said to yank it out!!!

DW had laproscopy surgery, very tiny incisions, had to do an overnight stay (found out it was required by the hospital if they put you completely "out" during any procedure) next day picked her up, and she felt a little sore (she described it as doing to many stomach crunches)

she was in the operating room about 25 minutes or so, very quick!

no heavy lifting and so forth. after a week or so, she said she felt normal.

we did learn: Ask your surgon how many procedures he has done!
(ours did 8 to 10 per day, three times a week, for over 6 years!)

Thank you all so much! I feel much better now.

I talked to my doctor's office this morning. They just now got the ultrasound results sent up from Florida. I should hear today from the surgeon's office. I'm tired of eating dry cereal!

When I had my 5 years ago I went home the same day as my surgery. You will be feel so much better

I had gallbladder surgery four years ago, and oh, what a relief! Just to have the attacks end, I would've gone through just about anything, but the surgery, for me, was a breeze. Very little pain. No overnight. I was up and at 'em in days.

My husband had his out on Monday and was back at work on Tuesday. He is a bit of a workaholic but he was only in surgery 45 minutes and recovery for 2 hours and he was sent home.

I had it done in 2007 after an ER visit following 3 attacks in 2 days. The pain of those attacks took my breath away! I went in a week later for a 9am surgery and was home by 3pm. The dr looked at a possible hernia while in there so that added a couple of hours to the recovery. It was laproscopic so I just have 2 tiny little scars where the incisions were made. I was sent home with a drainage tube, though not all patients are, that will depend on the dr. Once the drainage tube was removed a few days later, I was able to move freely and do just about anything. I was back to work in a week and at WDW 4 weeks later!
