Gallbladder issues. UPDATED POST 64

Interesting. Well I'm 10 years past my last child - who were all big babies (8lbs 2oz, 7lbs 14oz, 9lbs 5oz & 8lbs even), so avoided it then. At least I know what the symptoms are now, if it ever does happen.

I was 5 years past my last pregnancy when it happened. It happened to my mom about 10 years after her last pregnancy.

I had mine removed days before my dd's second birthday. But my first attack, she was much younger

I realized I never updated, I’m sure you are all unable to sleep, lol.
My gallbladder is fine, I then had a CT Scan, I have diverticulitis, which I’m on antibiotics for, and a colonoscopy coming up, and a change of diet. I already exercise a lot, I am a smoker (not stopping ), not overweight, but I need to eat healthier.

My DH had an attack of diverticulitis once. He was placed on an antibiotic and couldn’t eat meat for the duration of the time on the antibiotic. He said it was incredibly painful. Glad you have a diagnosis and treatment plan.

Thank you. ❤️ I have been really really good. I will be going to The Keg Thursday for our 26th anniversary, missed our last years due to COVID, so this will be my only exception.

I have definitely heard of that and once the infection is dealt with I think you will have good luck with the dietary changes. It's nothing terrible or too restrictive. :flower3:

I'm glad to hear that it seems to be treatable without surgery right now. I'm also glad that you're having a colonoscopy-not because of the procedure itself (even though it's easy-peasy) but because it can both diagnose *and* rule out a whole host of things.

Yes, a colonoscopy is a smart idea, especially for a smoker. Colon cancer is one of the most common cancers caused by smoking, after lung cancer and mouth/throat cancer.

I can’t tell you how glad I am that I found this thread
First off - I’m so sorry for the suffering and pain you all have gone or are going through

I have been having issues for over 20 years - the last 6 have been horrible - all my symptoms match what others have mentioned here - I have had a ton of test scans mri blood work - scopes / colon test - you name it I’ve more than likely had it done to be told yup your fine - while I sit there in extreme pain - trust me I can handle pain - I came home from spinal fusion surgery - front and back 4 disc no pain pills / broken bones / no pills - this pain - I’m screaming like a little girl !
so after several weeks this month of crippling nonstop pain (holiday food) my Dr orders another scan and low and behold - gallstones 😳 I look up symptoms (since I’ve been told all along gallbladder was fine I never bothered to ck) and ALL my symptoms match to a capital T!!
I am not sure why no one could figure this out sooner - especially after being in the hospital with this for days 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ But I’m thankful I’m getting somewhere now
Thank you for posting all the helpful diet changes and suggestions ❤ I will say the no chocolate is going to be tuff and no soda but the soda is causing immediate pain so that one will be easier than my beloved choc
I’m not fat just a few pounds over the limit for my height - overall cholesterol is good - but could be better . But with the 5 F I meet most of them
Thank you again - the DIS is always the best place for me to get help !! ❤❤

wow, you poor thing. The diet is tough but knowing the why and that it will really reduce symptoms makes it so worthwhile. Hang in there, hopefully you wont have too long to wait for surgery and it will all be over.

you poor thing. Like you didn’t have enough on your plate already ❤❤

I hope you get it resolved quickly, had you ate relatively pain free 🥰

I wasn’t wanting surgery but the more I think about it the more my mind is wrapping around the fact there is no other option - I just need to come to terms with that - pain makes that happen rather quickly - I’m so setting bland and nothing but water for me !! Bonus will be I can finally lose that 20 pounds I want to get rid of before summer !!! See - a positive !!! Along with no more pain !!! Huge positive !!

When I was talking with my surgeon about treatment, I asked, will the surgery fix the the problem, he said yes, I asked is the gall bladder like the appendix, as in an organ that I can function healthily without, he said yes, so then I said, well great, lets get rid of it.

After that my only concern was when, and he said that after my particular issue which was pancreatitis, he usually advises 6 to 8 weeks, which was what happened.

Other than the initial recovery after surgery, I have had no issues.

I had my gallbladder out after 34 weeks of nearly total starvation (pregnancy was not fun); once it was out, there were a few foods that I had to avoid for a while (I discovered this the hard way), but it was worth getting my gallbladder out to end the pain.

Thank you this is very reassuring ❤️
Are you able to eat within reason what you would like now ??

Also - did anyone have itching in their back ? The middle of my back towards the right has itched off / on like crazy for months - no rash nothing - nothing I do makes it stop - I thought at first I was getting shingles again but no - wondering if it has anything to do with this since it’s same spot as pain ???

Yes. After surgery I reintroduced foods slowly, pizza one week, the next week hagen das etc etc. Now I have no issues with any food, deep fried, high fat content, or spicy. I went back to all the food I used to eat before the pancreatitis started

Yes. Peanut butter, feta cheese were two foods, as well as red wine that I discovered were causing pain even after the surgery. But after a while I was finally able to eat these.
