I just had emergency gall bladder surgery on Friday. I was admitted through emergency on Thursdat night...my DD's 9th birthday ! That's not what I was planning for her birthday.
Anyway, Can anyone give me an idea of what recovery will be like and any good "low fat" recipes I can use?

Yikes!!! I know the feeling of needing to have it done NOW. I had mine removed just 2 weeks after DD #2 was born. Recovery time really depends on how it was removed. Mine was a laparoscopy so the incision was just 2 inches with a few small dots where instruments were used. I was back to normal within a week or so.

My daughter had to have hers removed when she was 16. It's been two years and she is doing fine. Certain foods bother her. She still eats alot of what she always ate. Mexican and real spicy foods bother her a little. She will get a pain in her stomach that usually goes away after a while. Nothing like the pain she had before they determined it to be from her gall bladder. She is doing fine. She healed up not long after the surgery. So basically she eats regular foods with no special diet. I would say its a good thing to stay away from alot of high fat foods. Hope you feel better soon.

I had my gall bladder out 4 years ago. A week later when they removed the staples, that's when I really started to feel better and was able to stand up straight when I walked. I think as each day goes by, you will feel better and better. Just don't push yourself too much; I remember being easily fatigued the first week or two.

What is it with gall bladder surgery happening at a bad time?? LOL I had mine out (emergency surgery) 2 days before we had to take DS13 into Boston, to Children's Hospital. My DH had to push me in a wheelchair, while DS limped along on crutches. (I didn't reschedule DS's appt because it took too long to get the first one. And you know how it is when it concerns your kids, you put them first :)). My poor sister had to have emergency gall bladder surgery while she was still in the hospital after her first mastectomy 5 years ago :( But on a brighter note, next week we are going to NJ for a surprise party for her, to celebrate 5 years of her being cancer-free :sunny:

I had emergency gall bladder surgery when dd was 4 weeks old. I was up and pretty much back to normal in a week. My suggestion is to walk around as much as you can. Good luck and speedy recovery.

My DS had his gall bladder out when he was 12 via laparoscopy. He was feeling better the next day and took very little pain medication. He will get stomach pain and acid if he eats too much fat at one meal so he tries to watch it a bit. He does take tums now and then Other than that, he eats anything and everything in moderation. He is now 15 and is doing really well. It is a good idea not to eat too much fat at one time and you could probably just modify existing recipes to cut down a little on the fat. Look in your local library for low fat cookbooks and also online. I hope you have a quick recovery.

I had my gallbladder out by laparoscopy when I was 18. I had some other problems at the same time so I can't say how much of my pain was from one or the other... but my scars are teeny tiny now (two years later). I still feel kind of gross if I eat too much fried food at once, but otherwise I can eat anything now.

You can find tons of things low fat or fat free in the grocery store now so start sampling those... fat free cheese isn't so good but you deal when it's your only option ;) Also Krusteaz fat free brownie mix was like heaven for me. www.anitasrecipes.com is a good site to try for low fat recipes.
