I'm assuming that these are still allowed at UO as a face covering? I know that Disney is being all hardcore and for whatever reason not allowing gaiters, but I bought a couple specifically for our upcoming UO trip (they are great in the heat and even have UV protection) so just wanted to be sure. Thanks!

People have reported gaiters being permitted since UO opened. To my knowledge, UO has not released guidance on face coverings like Disney has. Just that a face covering must be worn.

Is Disney not merely saying masks/gaiters must have ear straps? I know Tim Tracker cut little ear holes in the gaiters he prefers (they have filter insert).

Changed as of today. No neck gaiters period. Now I have to make masks out of neck gaiters or a cooling shirt. :/

Yup no gaiters, ear hole or otherwise, and no bandanas. Disney even went further with it to say that masks must be "at least two layers of breathable material" and must fit "snuggly and comfortably against the side of the face and neck." Not sure how Disney is going to be able to tell if a mask is one layer or two (mine are two layers but you could never tell just by looking at them), and the "snuggly and comfortably" thing is super subjective. Not sure why Disney has gone so hardcore with their mask requirements other than they are just covering as many "we don't wanna get sued" bases as possible.

I believe the cast member union has a LOT of clout/ say as to all these conditions. Does UO even have a union for their team members?

Hmm that's a good point. And I actually did read the UO mask info and it does say the two-ply thing for them as well, though that's as far as they go. They don't say anything about gaiters, just that they are following CDC guidelines (and per the CDC gaiters are acceptable, if not slightly less protective than cotton masks bc the more breathable materials allow more droplets in/out). Basically the CDC says any face covering that covers your nose and mouth is fine.

Interesting read:

Would be nice to have a universal :), ok, US-wide, even state standard declared so we can all be on the same page.

As I understand it, in the state of FL, it is currently up to the owners of amusement parks to set their own mask standards

If they state the rules & say they did this due diligence in attempting to enforce said rules, thinking that does tick off a block on the ”we don’t wanna get sued” checklist

Just want to share that the disney pre-order facemasks are finally starting to be delivered from back order.

They are pieces of crap...ridiculously small in both the ear straps (most i know have snapped them to the maximum to avoid looking like Dumbo

The child’s size mask is tiny, wouldn’t adequately cover more than a tot’s

The Disney ones are so small! I got my 11 year old a medium and it looks like it would fit a 3 yr old.

So looks like UO has updated its mask policies now but the wording is more vague than Disney's. Says masks have to be secured by ear loops or "behind the head" which technically a gaiter is. Be curious to see if they start telling guests they can't wear them, or it stays status quo.

Seems like much of the change was aimed at people who were walking around with drinks or water bottles, but not really drinking them, just using them as an excuse to not have their mask on. The new wording says you must be "actively eating or drinking" to not have a mask on.

New policy also says two layers. Few gaiters are two layers. I was looking at the official fb passholder group last night. Someone took screenshots of a chat with Uni. The tm said two layered gaiters would still be allowed. There’s probably reports on there already of whether or not that is actually true.

Actually that was already in the policy (two layers) before the update, but that's also not really something that's enforceable. I mean, how would they know if something is two-layers or not without actually physically inspecting them? They did add that there can't be any ventilation holes (like jersey material) which I know some gaiters do have, but that's much easier to spot by looking.

Curious to see how enforced this all becomes. I have a gaiter I was going to wear but it's only one layer (no vent holes or anything) and I still want to wear it, but I was planning on bringing a backup regular mask anyways just in case.

The first time I read Uni’s policy the week before opening there was nothing about how many layers a face covering needed to have. I don’t know when it was changed as I never looked at it again til yesterday.

Not sure when they added that. I noticed it a couple of weeks ago when I checked the policy. Think that wording comes straight from CDC guidelines. If they're still allowing gaiters tho my guess is they aren't really focusing on the two layer thing too much. Guess we'll see!

Ok, so read through the FB group. Gaiters are still allowed (today anyways) if they are two ply and are snug, aka wear it properly so it stays up. Or you can wear two single layer gaiters. Some have been asked to pull it above their ears. Ear loops are not needed though.

Interesting. My sister is a TA and said one of her clients is at UO. They wore a gaiter for 3 days with no issue, then the day after the rule was changed they were told that gaiters weren't allowed at all. Sounds like there may be some confusion from one staff member to another. Oh well, probably just stick to a regular mask to not have to deal with it.

Here now. Lots of gaiters, including some that look like one layer and are loose. Mine has a drawstring and I folded it in half with the drawstring on the outside, which makes it inside out. It’s fairly snug this way across my cheeks. Security asked me to pull it above my ears though I don’t think he could see the drawstring- dunno if he still would’ve said that if he had. I did but there are lots of exposed ears everywhere and no one is being asked to pull the gaiter back up so I uncovered my ears too. It’s actually a bit snugger with it below my ears.
