Gail's Journal (comments welcome)

Gail, I'm glad you had another great day! Good for you and Amanda that you are both getting back on track! :)

Are you going to use your trial membership to Bally's? I was a little scared to at first but I think I've convinced myself to do it and I'm kind of looking forward to it now!

I'm glad you switched your weigh in to Saturday. Now we weigh in together. :teeth: The NBC officially starts on a Saturday too so that makes it easier for weigh ins on that as well.

Have a great night!

Hi Gail

Thanks for stopping by my journal and saying such wonderful things. Your kind words were just what I needed. :)

I'd just like to put in a plug for WW too (I see Tera already did!). It is really teaching me the concept of moderation (okay, so I haven't mastered the idea yet-- but I'm trying!). I guess its the focus on portion control and mostly healthy choices but not making foods off limits that seems to really help me. I also got the Firm 3-in-1 Body Sculpting for Christmas! I've done two of the DVDs so far and love them. Its great to have exercise tapes when its impossible to get out and exercise.

You have plenty of enthusiasm and that will help your DD, too. Keep up the great work :cheer2:

Sundie

I'm still on track with food.

Thanks for stopping by Sundie and your encouraging words...I'm gonna put WW on the back burner for right now and try this low carb/low fat thing. But I will do it if this fails...but please call me on it if I don't "remember" it down the road..I will never take offense :badpc:

Michelle...I thought it worked out quite conveniently that weigh in was on Saturday too! I really do think that I have a better mind set this time. I read back through some of my earlier entries from last July and I would have a mess up each week and weekend. That really did me in. All the progress I would make during the week...I would mess it up over the weekend. Having my husband on board this time will really be a big help for me. I really don't know if there is a Bally's around me. I need to check that out. I'm still so aprehensive about going to a gym...I guess it's self conciousness. Have you gone to your Bally's and checked it out?

Tomorrow is my first weigh in! I can't wait to see my ticker move!

Guess I won't be taking advantage of Bally's! The closest one is about an hours drive away. That won't work at all for me.

Boy..I really wasn't as commited as I thought in July! What a rollercoaster I was on :earseek: I know I can do this. I need to keep reminding myself that with all the weight I lose that I will never look like a swimsuit model! I have stretched my body out to almost 300 lbs and then lost over a 100 lbs, my lower stomache will hang, my breasts will hang (after all I did have 3 kids), my upper arms will be large, and I will always hate my thighs! But if I keep working at it..someday things may change. But being realistic, I know that I will never have that flat washboard stomache! I will always be reminded of what I have put my body through! But on the plus side...as long as I look good in clothes, I will be happy. By losing this weight I am adding time to my life and feeling good about myself. I will be healthier. I may not look good naked, but as long as I'm alive to look like something...that is an accomplishment!

My first official weigh in of the new year...down 6 pounds! I know it's the flush...but I'm still excited! :earseek: A loss is a loss!

If anybody read my post yesterday about the note to myself...it's crazy, but last night I was reading January's Self Magazine..and the funny thing is that there is an editorial 2 pages long in the first few pages that more or less says the exact same thing! I was just happy to read that it's okay to be a size 10 or 12, since I know I will never be a 6! I guess I've had to learn to accept myself and it's so great! It's nice not having these unreal expectations. It's so refreshing..I know I can do this! Have a good weekend!

Good for you on the weight loss. Your thoughts on the prior post sound totally sound and rational. I keep thinking those same thought too. I will never sadly be a size 2, 4 or 6 again. But that is ok. I will be healthy and that's what matters. You are doing great. :flower1:

:cheer2: Congrats on your weight loss.

Your post about accepting yourself was great. What so weird is when I was 150 lbs and a size 12 I always thought I was sooo fat. I guess being as heavy as I am now will make me appreciate how my body looks when I do reach my goal.

Have a great weekend.

Hey Gail...

Great job on the weight loss!!! :cool1: :cool1: That's an awesome way to start off your new year... keep up the great work. I know what you mean about getting through the weekends. Mine WI is on Tuesdays and sometimes it's hard to be good Sat & Sun, especially since I don't workout on those days. Moving your weigh in to Saturdays just might be the thing you need to keep you modivated the rest of the weekend.

I totally agree with what you said in your note to self and I think most of us feel the same way. I couldn't even tell you the last time I was a size 12, not in my adult life, that's for sure. I've gone down from a size 18 to a size 14 in 4 months and I'm thrilled. The weight is coming off slowly, but that's what we want. If we lose it too quickly, yes, we'll have some extra skin hanging. I'm really trying to increase my weight training to avoid that. You have to just keep thinking to yourself that your 100 pounds lighter than you were before and how much healthier your are because of it. I think that's awesome!!!

Thanks for the nice words you guys! I'm really happy about my outlook this time around. I still can't believe when I read through my journal how many times I gave in to temptation! I guess I was thinking that exercise was the key but it's a combination of exercise, food and mind!

I'm happy to report that I purchased an exercise ball Friday. I've been using that since Friday along with some other exercises. Today I did some weights and lower body workouts along with the ball. They just opened a Curves less than a mile from my house...does anyone have any experiences..good or bad..they could share w/ me.

Tera..I did get a cd/mp3 player this weekend too! Do you have any songs that you would recommend that get you moving...or anyone else? They might make a mall walk that much more enjoyable. :charac2:

This weekend has been great. I've been eating so great! No desire to eat bad. I hope I have this same strength for a while! Even doing some exercising. :cool1:

Taking it day by day! :teleport:

Hey Gail - Isn't it amazing when you read through your journal, how different your attitude is.

Those exercise balls are pretty cool. I use one at the gym for my sit-ups :earseek:

As far as the music, I went through my CD collection and added the ones I really like to rock to :smooth: I love the new Gwen Stefani song that's out (great beat for the treadmill or elliptical). I listen to Dave Matthews, Hoobastank, Matchbox Twenty, Train, etc. If it's got a good beat, I like to listen to it. The new Destiny's Child song is also a great cardio song :earboy2:

Unbelievable! I made it through the weekend WITHOUT cheating! That is an accomplishment in itself! I am an awful weekend cheater (in the past now!) Here's hoping for another good day!

Taking it day by day! :teleport:

I've been walking to the new Gwen Stefani CD and I swear I walk faster with it then without!

Gail - Great job!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: That's the way to stick with it! Keep up the good work and like you said, one day at a time.

Christine - I hear it's a great CD (I still want to say album). Might have to go buy that one.

Thanks for the input on the music Christine and Tera! Yeah..I always want to say album too!

I like Gwen Stefani...I like some of the NoDoubt songs too! I'm trying to make up a mix disc! I'll have to check out her new CD.

DS14 has been home sick(well, he's been sick since Saturday). Funny how I have to watch him just like I would a baby...only because he needs his mommy. Actually, I keep forcing fluids on him...nag..nag..nag!

So, it's been a pretty uneventful day!

GAIL!!! 6LBS. HOLY COW WOMAN!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

You, my friend need a 5lb. clippie in your signature! ::yes::

That stinks that the Bally's is so far away from you. They are all over the place down here. I haven't been to mine yet. I'll have to call sometime this week, I want to schedule my first workout for Monday. I have the self-conscious issue as well but I think going to the gym will help me really get into a good exercise routine. I plan to ask them what their slowest time is and go then! I'm really starting to look forward to it. Hopefully I'll have the money to continue my membership either there or somewhere cheaper when the free trial is up in March.

I'm so proud of you for getting through the weekend without cheating. That's fantastic!

I hope DS feels better soon! :)

I've been meaning to get on here and list my typical menu for the day...in case I need a reminder down the road! The first week I would drink a Lite n Fit Smoothie yogurt (80 cals. no fat)...lunch would be a Slim Fast(regular ones)...dinner would be a fist size portion of lean meat like chicken or tuna salad on lettuce...no bread or starches. I had 2 snacks a day that consisted of either 6 triscuts and a few squares(like the shapesters) of cheddar cheese or a pickle. Really no exercise the first week. Water only to drink...generally 80 to 100 ounces a day. This second week I have been having a small bowl of Special K w/ ffmilk(I buy the small paper bowls..I think like 12 oz..but always only fill it half way...so that's about 6 oz) Lunch has been the Optima Slimfast. Dinner has been the same...lean meat and a veggie side. No starches or bread. Last night I did have some chili that I made...it was mostly kidney beans..yum fiber..and 93% lean meat along w/tomato sauce(I use the dry packet of chili seasoning too) and topped w/ onions and a little cheddar. It was very good and filling. Plus I had it in my little bowl(ate 2 of these..and skipped snacks today) I've been having one snack during the day like the pickle or cheese cubes...then a dessert like sugar free jell-o or a 100 calorie pack. Water has been 80 to 100 oz. Have started some mild exercising this week.

Whew...sorry that was so long...but I had to journal some of the food that way I could see what I'm doing. I've gotten through the hunger pains! Planning my meals is such a must do thing! And NOT eating out has been great...not only am I saving money...but I'm sticking to my plan! DH bday is Wednesday... I think we are going out to eat on Saturday...but I think we are just going to Applebees where I will order from the WW menu!

Michelle...what do you think of Curves? I'm really looking for some input before I go there. Just wasn't sure if it was a waste of time...like I could do it at home instead of spending the money. We have a ton of different gyms within a couple miles (like Golds, Sport & Fitness, etc...no Bally's) I know they don't offer a variety at Curves since it's that circuit workout for 30 mins. I'm wanting to do this without going overboard and obsessing w/ the workout.

Well...here's to another day!

Just had to post that I got in a 30 minute workout today...some stability ball...cardio(mostly marching/running in place...jumping...knee lifts..etc) arm weights! I feel such a boost of energy this morning!

Hi Gail, sounds like you've been doing great. I was also looking at that Applebee's WW menu. Some stuff looks really good. My DS's B-day is next month and that's where we are thinking of going. Be sure to let us know how good it is. Have a great day!
