GAD redemption - copy of passport for kids

I see that it's OK to use a copy of the birth certificate for our kids. It's not as easy for us to dig out their birth certs as we have it packed away. We do have their passports as we use those regularly - is it OK to bring copies of their passports? I don't really want to lug their passports around the park all day.

Someone asked this question before, but I don't think they posted after their trip to say if they were successful. The voucher states a government issued passport or photo ID, or a driver's license with photo. It then says birth certificate or copy of a birth certificatefor kids under 18. There's no mention of a copy of a passport, driver's license or government issued ID being acceptable.

That being said, you might find a CM who is fine with a copy, or you might find one who requires the original since that is what is printed on the voucher.

If it were me, I would bring the passports or find the BCs and make a copy, but that doesn't mean you won't be fine if you just bring a copy of the passports. It might just depend on the CM who helps you.

I used my kids military ID cards. It is a government issued ID card and had no problems when redeeming their GAD vouchers.

We can get copies of our kids birth certificates right at our town hall. Last time I did it cost about $3 per copy. We do still live in the town we lived in when they were born. If I'm correct you must go to that towns city hall. Good luck.
