Due to health issues that DH has recently dealt with (he had a neurostimulator implanted for a damaged nerve which causes chronic neck/head pain and tends to have back pain due to the implanted wires running down his back), he has difficulties standing for long periods of time, especially in a large crowd of people. Looking at our upcoming trip, he jokingly said he should get a GAC. After thinking about it, we decided it may not be a bad idea to have one for WOC as even before his recent surgery, he had difficulties standing still for the show. He does OK in lines as he can move around (and we try not to wait in lines longer than 20-30 minutes) and does OK with walking all day as he can sit down when needed.
Would he be able to get a GAC? If so, how do we go about getting one? We are not looking to abuse the system as we frown on people that look at the GAC as a front of the line pass. I am only thinking of how much easier it will be for him to be able to sit on a bench at WOC where he can stretch out a little more.

Thanks for your advice.

To be honest, in this situation they would most likely recommend that he rent a wheelchair or ECV for that particular situation.

When you get to City Hall the cm will ask you what kind of assistance you need. Just tell them and they will give you the proper GAC endorsement. It might he they recommend a wheelchair.

They will give you a GAC that is appropriate for the situation. Since it is standing issue, I do think they may advice you to rent a wheel chair.

I would recommend an ECV. There's a place you can rent them for the entire week in the Ramada Maingate--it might be worth looking into in this case.

My husband has chronic back and neck issues. He does not need (or want) to use an ECV so he gets a GAC. It allows us to utilize the disabled section at WOC. He sits on a bench and I stand behind him. It's a lifesaver for him.

Just stop in Guest Services and explain the situation and they will give you the right pass.

I agree. If he only needs the accommodation you mentioned (disabled seating for WOC), then there is no need to go to the trouble/expense of renting an ECV. He should be able to get a GAC to help him with that. Now, if after he gets there he realizes that even walking is too painful for him to enjoy himself, then by all means rent an ECV.

Thank you all for your advice. Like your husband Love Tink, my DH does not need or want an ECV. He is OK with lines and walking as he can move around. Just standing in one spot in which he cannot move because he is surrounded by lots of people is really tough for him as everything tightens up in his neck/back.
I think we will try to get the GAC so he can sit on a bench for WOC and stretch out. It will be a much better experience for him.

Oh, is the GAC good for the whole trip, or do we need to get a new one for each day we may need it?
