DW has severe asthma and has some significant breathing problems in the Orlando summer heat. I am wondering what a GAC might provide in this situation, and also if anyone has experience on point? :) :) :)

I and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information, Post #6 discusses the GAC.

Or, if you want an easier route, click on the link in my signature.

The big thing about the GAC is you have to be able to explain the needs to the person in Guest Relations, but that is covered there.

We used one a few years ago. We brought a note from our doctor but now know that's not needed. I will say that, better than a GAC, going when the weather is cooler is a whole lot more helpful and makes the trip much more enjoyable. We went in May 5 years ago and went in Jan/Feb this year. This trip was much, much better!

Unfortunately there's not a whole lot a GAC can do for heat/breathing issues. Even waiting in the shade doesn't remove the heat factor and most of the queue lines are already shaded. Perhaps renting a w/c would help as then there wouldn't be the stress/energy used to walk between attractions. I agree that if there's any way to schedule your trip in times other than the summer it will make the trip lots more enjoyable, not just due to the heat but also the Florida humidity which can be grueling.---Kathy

The important thing is to spend as little energy outdoors and as little time outdoors. Use tourguide books and trip planners as well as the fastpass and GAC to get as many outdoor things done in the cool hours. Use the Early Magical Hours, mind has gone on strike so I forget.

the GAC can help her avoid stairs which are energy burners and possibly get indoors faster though not necessarily make the wait shorter. If she gets tired she can lay down at the Nurses Station.

There are very few attractions with stairs and most with stairs have the stairs inside.
I think the best advice is to go early in the day, go back to the room and rest during the middle of the day while it's hot and then go back to the park again in the evening after it cools off.

I always travel with both inhalers (never even though of GAC for asthma) and it IS best to avoid the middle of the day during the summer months....winter months are much easier but that is not always an option. I have only had trouble one time in WDW - I think it is the Disney magic....:wizard:
