The G 20 Summit will be held in Pittsburgh September 24-25. The plans are going to basically shut down Downtown Pittsburgh. I have no idea how I will get to work. They are saying the bus system won't be allowed to run in Downtown. Most of the parking garages will be closed. There will be protesters every where that isn't shut down by the Secret Service. I may not even be able to go to work. And we probably not find out details until a few days before.

Thanks for the vent.

That's also the same time they are having the 31st annual Great Race 10k in Pittsburgh. One of the biggest running events certainly in the city - if not the country. Good luck Kim.

Are you coming for the Great Race, Dave? Maybe I should start training for a 10 k. I was just outside trimming the bushes and I am exhausted. Of course it is going to be an Ozone action day. Very humid, but they looked terrible in the front of the house. I definitely have to start exercising again. I have to be in shape for DAP. 2 or 3 days of commando would kill me right now. I have 4 months to work on it. And another 4 months after that to make sure I can do 10 days in the parks in April. Treadmill here I come. Hey maybe I could walk to work. Its only 8 miles. I shouldn't take me more that 3 hours. And the ambulance could take me home after I collapse.

Kim,

Is there any chance that you will be given those 2 days off? My mom works downtown and she already knows that they're shut down for those 2 days.

All they keep saying at work is "We don't know what is going on." I work for Verizon. So we are dealing with the corporate offices. And of course the people who make those decisions don't even live in Pittsburgh. There are local people giving input, but at this point the final decision is coming out of New Jersey. I'm a little scared. You never know about those Jersey people. ;)

Hey Kim, I dunno about the Great Race. :confused3 My MIL is always asking us to come in town for it. We may come in town, but I don't know what I'm doing for Labor Day yet let alone the end of the month. Good for you for going to start exercising for DAP. Good luck with the treadmill.

Hey, how was MagicMeets anyway? Did you go?

Unfortunately MagicMeets conflicted with my other hobby's annual convention. I was a little sad I missed it this year. Hopefully it will move back to mid July next year.

I understand about not knowing what is going on one week from the next. I just wish my company would acknowledge there is no way for me to get to my normal office for the time of the summit. I told my boss I would be able to go to another office, to work. I just don't want to be forced to use vacation time I have set aside for other things (DAP and my April WDW trip.)

Fingers crossed for them just giving us the time as some sort of emergency situation.

I didn't realize MagicMeets was the same time as Pennsic.

There's no way you should have to use vacation time if you can't get to work because of the summit. Yeah, maybe you should walk in. Good luck.

Do you have a bike? If you can't walk the 8 miles maybe you can cycle it. I would love to cycle to work but there is no safe way for me to get there.

Dave, that race is on my radar but I won't be able to do it this year. I have 2 halves already in September (VA Beach and Phily) but maybe next year we can have a little 2 person DIS meet in Pit for the run. I know a couple people on the WISH boards that might join us.

I haven't had a bike in years. And I am very scared of the streets that lead into Downtown if I was on a bike. And getting to work wouldn't be too bad. A lot of it is downhill. However that means coming home is uphill. :scared1:

Can someone tell the Pittsburgh Pirates that the G20 Summit isn't until late September? I think they got their dates mixed up and shut down at the All-Star break (not that they were that great before the break).

I've LOVED the Pirates for years! And if there has ever been a team without a bandwagon, it's the Pirates. But I think they have lost 17 of their last 20 games. I'll still cheer them on, but I wish they hadn't shut down so early.

HEY! No slamming us Jersey people.

I know all too well what happpens when the famous folk come to town. Graduation at Rutgers throws the New Brunswick area into a tailspin.

I feel your pain Kim.

I would like to agree that riding a bike in Pittsburgh is scary.:scared1: If you lived in the Southside it wouldn't be too bad. There is a nice trail between the Southside and Downtown.

How close can you get on the bus? Maybe you could just walk the last bit?

I am glad I don't have to go Downtown for any reason. I hope you find out soon what is going to happen.:grouphug:

Just as an FYI, next year's Magic Meets is going to be on the Disney Magic! I won't be able to swing that one, that's for sure!

That'd be fun to meet up for the Great Race sometime Frank. I've done it in years past, but haven't done it for a while. Last year, I did the Expedition Everest Race instead.
