FYI: Villas @ the Contemporary rumor

Well, if this ever happens, I think it will be great. IMO, it would sell very fast. I think a lot of people want a DVC resort on the monorail. They already have restaurants there and most everything else anyone would need.

I think the Poly would also sell fast if DVC Villas were built there.

Who knows?

ITA--The only thing that prevented me from buying into DVC soone was my love of the Poly. I would definitely add on points if they became available there.

I also agree it's high time the DVC had a property on the monorail, surprised it hasn't happen yet.

200? - New DVC Resort - (6/14/04) With the Saratoga Springs now open, the rumor of adding a DVC wing to the Contemporary has returned. Our source claims that one of the Wings will close to make way for this project after the end of the 2004 Holiday season.
(9/12/03) Screamscape has received a rumor claiming that the next DVC resort, after the Saratoga Springs, may be built at the Contemporary. From the sounds of things, Disney will rehab the rooms in the South Wing and then demolish the North Wing to make way for a new five story DVC Resort.

My question is:

Which wing is the North wing? Is it the one near the CR tennis center and that is within easy walking distance to Magic Kingdom or is it the other side next to the canal connecting the two lakes?

I believe it is the area that is referred to as the "Garden Wing"

North wing would be closest to the racket club and walking into MK from CR is easy....from any wing.

Since SSR is not scheduled to be complete until 2007 (828 units), I don't expect any new WDW expansion announcements in the near future. Remember, Eagle Pines was put on hold and is still in the background with 600 (or so) units.
Rumors are fun, but I don't think that I will hold my breath until DVD makes the Contemporary announcement.

I wouldn't hold my breath either, but we can dream.

The North Garden Wing is on the upper left:

This would be very exciting. Especially if it is the north area. That is a short walk to the MK. I think if this does occur this will greatly lessen the value of VWL due to its amazingly close proximity to MK and the monorail for that matter. VWL is great and beautiful so please don't think that I don't like it. I think it is because of distance to MK.

I don't think it will hurt the value of VWL. The theme was a big selling point to the buyers of VWL. The Contemporry garden wing is getting very dated in looks. The main building went through a major cleaning a few years back, but they didn't touch the Garden wings. This would give Ei$ner a way of paying for an upgrade to the property, without the $.

This is my favorite rumor ever, if it came true I'd buy in a heart beat.

If it costs $125+ per point, as suggested in a previous thread, you may have cardiac arrest.
:earseek:

It's not only the cost of the points ($125 a point) its the amount of points per night that will make us cry

One thing's sure... they could probably get a lot more $$ in the long run with some nice DVC villas there... THe Garden wing sits on a sweet piece of prime property! I just wish it would have a different "theme"... "contemporary" doesn't do much for me.

Using current infastructure in a currently under utilized resort area makes sense based on what they did with SSR and the old Disney Institute. I wouldn't be surprised if they build a Contemporary Villas some day. I would be surprised at the time frame that is rumored. I could see this only after SSR is sold.

if there was a dvc added on to contemporary, that means you could not use your points to stay in the tower rooms, correct?

Perhaps DVC does not have alot of choice in the timing. It has been well documented on the boards that the North Wing is in pretty bad shape. If a decision has indeed been made then the timelines maybe shorter then we think.

Here are the options that I think Disney has regarding the North Wing, if indeed the plan is to hand them over to DVC.

1) Invest millions into the facility to bring it back up to standard, then hand over to DVC in about 4 - 5 years for it to be demolished and re-bulit.

2) Allow it to continue to deteriorate for 4 - 5 years, then hand over to DVC.

3) Close it sooner, board the windows and allow it to sit. DVC will then take it over when ready (SSR is sold-out and EP is open and 25% sold out).

4) Realize that it is in a high-profile location and that something needs to be done sooner then later. This resulting in the rumor reported on Screamscape this morning.

My conclusion - If the plan is to convert CR's North Wing to DVC, then number 4. If the plan is not to convert to DVC then we should see an announcement soon (6 - 12 months) regarding a major re-furb.

Then again, as I have said before, nothing would suprise me.

The South Garden Wing is closest to the swimming pool.

Correct...if they keep to historical trends. Normally, the "parent" resort is excluded from DVC point stays when they open up a DVC resort there.

I think if this does occur this will greatly lessen the value of VWL due to its amazingly close proximity to MK and the monorail for that matter. VWL is great and beautiful so please don't think that I don't like it. I think it is because of distance to MK.
Unless they theme it the same as WL, redo the lobby and plant a lot of trees, it won't be diminishing the value of my VWL holdings! :)

FWIW...we are at WDW right now and had breakfast this morning at Cape May at Beach Club. I was talking to the DVC rep at the DVC info desk and was asking how SSR was selling. He said that the first phase was 2/3 sold. I said that's great but we prefer the Boardwalk resorts. Anyway, he talked a bit more about SSR and then said something about the next one on the Monorail.

I was so busy at the time watching where my 3 kids were that I didn't even think about what he said to me until after breakfast.

Anyway....a Monorail resort would be great...sorry I didn't get more info :(
