FYI: RCI members trading into DVC and the DDP

I have 2 weeks booked in September via RCI and today I tried to add the DDP to my first week. MS told me that for RCI reservations they make you wait until closer to your trip to add and pay for the DDP. She told me to call a week or two before my trip to add it. So I purchased disney gift cards in the value of my dining plan so at least its paid for now when I have the money.

I don't believe that's accurate. Once they have it set up in their system, you should be able to add the DDP. I would personally wait though. Generally about Tuesday following the trade, DVC has the info. You should call and talk to the DVC exchange department and ask again maybe fairly early next week if you want to add it now.

I traded in November, have my confirmation numbers (January), made my ADRs(March), added all the kids to the room(a week ago)....I called today to pay for the dining plan they told me I couldn't add it right now and to call back a week or two before my trip. It was specifically because it was an RCI trade.

ETA: I just put the money on gift cards for now so it wasn't burning a hole in my bank account.

I've added the DDP to several exchanges and have never heard of any such restriction. While I'd still wait, it sounds like you got someone that didn't know and fed you a line.

We just returned home from a stay at OKW that we got though an RCI trade; we're DVC members but didn't stay with our points this time. I called a week or two after confirming to request a room location and a few months later to verify it. Both times they asked if I wanted to add the DDP. I wonder if it's because I called the DVC number and had them look up my RCI reservation. Maybe you did get a CM that just didn't understand the system.
