I saw this on our local news this evening. Thought I would pass this on as we have lots of young families on the boards with young children. I never heard of these YoYo Balls but seems they can be a real strangulation hazard. Just an FYI for those who might need to hear about it.

Toy recalled in Canada and Great Britain.

Yo-Yo Balls May Be Health Hazard

Thanks for the warning, Dan. These balls have been very popular in Italy for the last year. My son has had three of them and all of them are gone now as he was playing with one 3 months ago and it burst sending all of the liquid inside on my TV/VCR and wall unit. The stuff inside was nasty and it smelled funny so we decided to throw them all away. I can definitely see how they would be a hazard as stated in the article.

Those things are a big seller here right now and I won't let Dorian have one. I have seen them burst and I dont see them to be very safe at all.. My neighbor just told her son no as well and of course the Dad bought one. I think it lasted all of 10 mins outside. It was a big waste of money

Hi Dan,

These became VERY popular in schools about 6 months back but it was just a phase and I don't think you can get them over here unless you try really hard.

DS has one of these and he loves it! I guess I will need to get rid of it. A friend of mine gave it to him since her son loves his...I figured that since her son had been playing with one for months without any problems that it was ok. I thought it smelled a little funny but I figured it was just something in the plastic.

I will get rid of ours and make sure to tell my friend about it too.

2 of my kids had them....HAD being the keyword! They break quite easily! I think it cost them about $5 and all it was was a balloon, filled with 'gak' looking looking, attached to a long open rubber band. My kids who had them were 12 and 8 at the time. I would never allow a small child to play with them.

Thanks for the heads up! :)

Uh oh. Yeah, they do smell funny, but I always liked the smell. :)

Believe it or not, all the HIGH SCHOOL kids loved these things too. Would throw them around the hallways. When we got them in work to sell we would play with them all day and smack each other with them. Errr...yeah I'm 18 ;)

Didn't realize what they were made with. I can see how they can be a hazard, they get wrapped around things quite easily.

My boys have each had one. Paid $1 each at the Flea Market. Only lasted a day or two before they broke.
They aren't as popular around here anymore.

These yo yo balls were really popular right about the time last school year ended with older kids (middle school). I haven't seen any around in some time. The new "toy" to have is a blinking pacifier.
