Hi everyone,
just want you to know that alot of juices come from out of the country including Motts applejuice. They try to hide the words they imprint into the plastic "concentrate from china/vietnam etc" I called them to ask and they were very evasive but admitted that the juice concentrate comes from China. Most kids juices have concentrates from out of the country as well. I found 1 brand here in NJ that is "made in USA" and I only buy that brand.

And your point is????

Most items we use have a component that comes from outside the us.

Almost everything is made outside of the USA these days. Not sure what the point is you are trying to make.

Apples, even in the US, are one of the most sprayed fruits. They have very high levels of pesticides. If they are bad in the US, where there are at least some checks and balances, I would hate to think how bad they are coming from China, the land where nothing is inspected.

Several years ago, many toys from China were found to be unsafe. It's even more unsettling when you are talking about something you are going to ingest.

1. Kids really should not be drinking more than 4 oz of fruit juice a day anyway, if at all. It is not necessary, and a huge source of sugar.

2. Just because it comes form China doesn't mean it is "bad".

Well... It might not be, but I think the point is that you wouldn't know if it was. There are pesticides and agricultural chemicals that are no longer in use here in the US for safety reasons that are still used overseas so it is worth knowing where your food is coming from, particularly when talking about a product that pretty much requires heavy spraying for commercial growing. That's not specific to China or to apple juice either; South America's booming fruit growing regions aren't any less suspect.

Isn't China the country that poisoned all those babies with tainted formula. China is one country where I would not trust any food source from. Thanks OP for the heads up.

I am in NJ too.....can I ask what brand you found? Thanks!!

They have to go through US regulations!

My daughter is from China, lived there with a cleft lip and palate, in an orphanage with no money and she's alive.

DH and I spent weeks in China and we are still alive, not even once did we get sick!:sad2:

If you think that the United States is checking every import for your safety, you are sadly mistaken. Also, just because someone doesn't drop dead from immediate pesticide/chemical exposure doesn't mean it isn't harmful in the long run or that it isn't causing chronic illnesses and problems, particularly in children.

And the suspect company for all the pet deaths a few years ago was a Chinese company. I think it has something to do with the ingredients they supplied and they had melamine in them, which was the same stuff found in the baby formula if I'm not mistaken?

OP's point probably is that there is a huge problem with tainted food products from mainland China, which is why I won't buy any food imported from there.

Quoted for truth.
This is the sad fact that so many people in our country don't realize, and not just in respect to China but in respect to everything unhealthy that goes into our food...
"Sodium benzoate, artificial food dyes, RBGH, HFCS, trans fat, etc... I've been eating it and I haven't dropped dead, so it must be safe."

I've heard too many otherwise intelligent (and of course, some not so intelligent) adults say something to this effect that I just really have to wonder.

Wow, I always buy Motts because I thought it was made in the USA, I swore it said that on their label :confused3
Anyone know any brand that doesn't contain apples from China?

IIRC, the percentage of imports actually checked is less than 1%. There isn't the budget to test everything we bring in, which is why millions of dollars worth of lead-containing toys, tens of thousands of pound of tainted dog food, and other smaller recalls/safety hazards fall through the cracks.

I'm not saying Chinese products are likely to be fatal; I wouldn't hesitate to travel there, eat their food, and drink their water. But that's short-term exposure, not day after day, year after year, and I'm not a small child still developing essential faculties. To me, avoiding imported foods from nations with weaker environmental/agricultural safety protections is a very little thing to do to reduce exposure to potentially harmful chemicals, kind of like buying the "dirty dozen" foods from organic or no-spray growers even though we still eat many other things that aren't organic.

I had not even thought of this topic until one afternoon when DH came home from the grocery store. One of the items on my list had been apple juice. When he got home, he said he couldn't find a brand that was not processed in China.

I had never even thought to look! I just assumed our apple juice came from the USA!

So, the next time I was at the store I spent a good chunk of time looking at the all different brands & never did find 1 that was not processed in China.

I guess maybe apple juice at the Fresh Market or a similar store might have different brands that are processed elsewhere? I haven't had a chance to look though.

It is scary to think about though because the previous instances of the tainted formula, pet food, & toys do worry me.

I never worried much as we travel alot and figure we had no problems. However, this spring we were in china when they were having a watermelon exploding "situation". Basically they had used some sort of growth hormone to stimulate the watermelons to the point they were exploding. :scared1: They were smart enough not to sell them for obvious reasons.... however they were feeding them to the live stock which they were using as a food source:eek:!

At that point I realized how bad the Chinese regulations really were and we now will not by any food product from the area if I can help it. It also worried me when I learned that the government was stimulating rain because of droughts through seeding and that water was growing the plants. I'm not sure what it might or might not do... but it's not worth it to me to test any theory people might have.
