This could definitely be a budget buster if you were planning on this to save money on a trip to the movies. I did the $30/6 movie tickets about 2 weeks ago and was planning on taking the family to see either Tangled or Harry Potter around Thanksgiving. Guess that won't be happening- well at least not as cheaply!

This is the email I got- I'd be on the lookout if you took advantage of one of the Groupon movie ticket deals too.

Hi Mandi,

We're writing to let you know that Weekly Cinema has unexpectedly closed and wanted to apologize for any inconvenience this causes. We were sorry to hear this unfortunate news and understand it's a disappointment when you do not get to take advantage of a great deal like this one. We made our best effort to make this work, but unfortunately we were unable to assist Weekly Cinema enough to honor the deal. We sincerely apologize for letting you down, but we will do what we can to make it right and get your money back to you as soon as possible.

30 dollars has been refunded to the card you used to make this purchase. If you purchased a Groupon that was good for multiple tickets and used some of them, we have simply refunded the full amount of your purchase. Please allow up to 10 business days for the refund to reflect on your end.

Again, we're very sorry that you were unable to fully redeem this offer and thanks for your understanding.

Regards,

Gary

Just got this and I'm totally bummed. I've been trying to redeem my tickets for the last week, though, so am not completely surprised.

I got the same message, and am really disappointed! I had also planned to use them for Tangles and HP...

At least they are doing an automatic refund. Make sure that you save the e-mail and if you don't have the credit within ten days do a dispute with your credit card company.

At least they are making things right by promptly refunding the money. Maybe a new movie theater chain can jump on board with Groupon. we never had a Weekly Cinema near the Milwaukee area.

I got this response from BuyWithMe.
Hi Marion,

Thank you for contacting us. We are aware that the Weekly Cinema website is not available to redeem your codes from our promotion. We have been in contact with the Weekly Cinema team to resolve this issue immediately.

This is not a typical practice for BuyWithMe or our merchants, as we expect the best services and deals for our customers! We take immense pride in handpicking quality merchants with great offers that we all want to buy together. That obviously includes certainty of service.

We appreciate your patience while we iron out the details with Weekly Cinema. You will receive an email from us next week with a solution for your Weekly Cinema code.

Thank you for buying with us and we will continue to do our best to help you enjoy all the great stuff to do in your city.

Yours Truly,

The BuyWithMe Team
In other words, no refund for you! Doubt I will be deal with BuyWithMe after this. At least Groupon is making good on their guarantee.

I bought from TIPPR and I am still waiting on their answer. I have not used any of the codes, so hopefully I will get a refund. I bought from groupon too and had not used any of those codes either and I think they handled the situation well.

I used Groupon and didn't get to use any of the codes :( We hadn't ordered the tickets on Fandango yet because we were waiting for my husband to get his flight dates back home :( Oh well...

Ugh ~ I discovered this early this morning *went to use the vouchers for HP and Tangled Thanksgiving weekend* I purchased through groupon :headache:

I haven't gotten any type of notice. If I don't hear anything soon, I will ask for a refund/reversal directly from my credit card company. :guilty:

Contact your credit card! I bought with Groupon and got the email and I also bought with Living Social. I sent LS an email and they responded back saying I will be refunded.

I did use 3 tickets and I just kept putting off buying the HP tickets (my bad).

I bought four tickets from BuyWithMe. I went to use them this morning on the weekly cinemas site and discovered it was shut. I emailed them early this morning through the only contact info I could find. I STILL haven't gotten a response!
I hope they refund or I definetly will NOT purchase tickets through them!!!

After seeing the recent post on disboards, I purchased 4 weekly cinema tickets through Tippr. On November 9, I obtained the Fandango codes and ordered 4 HP tickets for this coming Saturday. I have a confirmation number through Fandango, but now I am concerned there will be a problem with this. We are going with two other families who purchased their tickets directly from the theater. Since we received a confirmation from Fandango, do you think the theater will honor our purchase? I don't want to be embarrassed if it turns out to be unaccepted. This is terrible for anyone who purchased the tickets and now can't get anything in return! I actually thought about signing up for the monthly program - boy am I glad I didn't!

I would go ahead and try the Fandango passes. The worst that could happen would be you would have to purchase tickets at the window and get a refund from Weekly Cinema later, right? :goodvibes Don't worry about being embarrassed if the Fandango passes don't go thru. I once arranged for Fandango passes when DH went to visit DS in college. When they got to the window, I had made a mistake on the date of one of the movie passes (who messes up ONE movie pass??) and the theater was great about it and helped DH get a correct pass. Unless money is an issue :guilty:, don't worry about being embarrassed if it doesn't work. ;)

I just tried to sign into Weekly Cinema again and I received this email from them when I couldn't sign in:

"Hi,
Unfortunately, the Weekly Cinema website is shutting down because the business model is not sustainable. We are working with our deal site partners to arrange for refunds for unused vouchers and movie ticket coupons that you have purchased. However, we have not yet reached definitive agreements on how this process will work. If you provide us with your email address at the main page, we will send you an email communication this week when we have finalized this process that will outline the refund process.

For WeeklyCinema subscribers, you can go to http://www.weeklycinema.com, enter your email address and we will update you on your refund as soon as possible.
Sorry for the inconvenience. You can find us on live chat between 10AM-5PM PST if you want a more immediate response. Rest assured, all future billing has already been stopped.

Thanks,
Weekly Cinema Support"

For anyone who was concerned about receiving their refund mine showed up on CC today (Nov16) there is probably no need to panic and contact your bank. Groupon seems to be a good company and is responding to this issue correctly. If you don't see your refund within 10 days just contact the seller (groupon social living, whoever) give them a chance to fix it before you raise a stink with your bank.

I sent an email off to fandango b/c I had gifted several of the weekly cinema codes to my daughters friends. They used them to purchase tickets for the midnight showing of harry potter. Fandangos response was that the tickets should be okay.

Ok....let me get this straight here. If I have the Fandango coupon codes, I should be able to purchase the Tangled tickets with those codes? I would try it right now but the movie times aren't even available yet on the website.

Someone please clear this up for me. If true, I feel bad about essentially getting FREE movie tickets! :scared1:
