FYI about SUVs and Alamo and online checkin

Alamo is considering the midsize SUV (ie the Equinox) to be a specialty vehicle so you cannot utilize the wonderful online checkin feature on the website, which means you will have to wait in line at the counter before you rent. This is just an FYI since the online checkin could save you a lot of time since you would only have to get your bags and go directly to the garage.

Are you talking from experience? Or, just from what it stated on the web page?

As I see it, a Standard SUV should be a normal rental, an Intermediate (Mid-Size) SUV and Full Size SUV would probably be a specialty.

Experience and by calling the 1-800 #. I have a reservation for May for a midize SUV and a compact (2 different drivers, cheaper than a minivan). The compact can do the online check in. The SUV cannot. I tried everything including full price rentals and was never able to do the online checkin (which you can actually do months in advance).

I would have thought it was a standard rental as well, but apparently Alamo does not see it that way.

I was able to do the online check-in for a Standard SUV for my trip in August. Looking on the Alamo website, online check-in is not available for "midsize SUV and other specialty vehicles". Standard SUV must not be a specialty vehicle.

Sorry I wasn't more clear in my title, but since I have seen so many posts about people reserving the midsize SUVs, I just wanted to give them a heads up. The standard allows you to do the online check in just fine. I have edited my original post so that it clears up the confusion
