I just came on this board for the first time and after reading some of these posts, I can't wait to camp at FW! We need a "lite" trailer before we can make the trip. We presently have an older trailer and there's no way we'd be able to pull it that far. I've got a Word document on the go, cutting and pasting all the comments. Reading these posts have made me realize we really do have to put this new trailer at the top of our "Wish List". I kept a day "free" on our upcoming trip to WDW just so we can go over to FW and check it out and to eat at the Trails End buffet, which I hear is great too. We went through part of it on the bus to Discovery Island (when it was open years ago) and saw a few deer on the side of the road. I fell in love with the place then!

LOL! You sound exactly like me about 15 years ago!! We went for our first time to WDW and stayed at a hotel offsite. While we were there, we went to a character breakfast at Pioneer Hall (no longer offered). We took one look at the campground and fell in  !

For the next 15 years we drove down from Minnesota for 2 weeks every year and camped at FW! :flower1:

First time staying at FW for us was '81, I think. Got hooked then and the hook keeps on going in deeper.

I have been camping at Ft Wilderness most of my life! First with my parents (in a tent) and now I take my kids. We bought a travel trailer and golf cart and go every chance we get. I don't care how often we go, the kids are still devistated every time we leave.

I've only been camping at Ft. Wilderness since 2001, but I love it!!! I still tent camp (and fly), and wouldn't have it any other way! I only get to go to Ft. Wilderness one week each December, but I spend most of the rest of the year figuring out the best way to configure my "camping stuff" to make my annual Ft. Wilderness trips the BEST.

I think a new tent is in order for next year!

We stay in the cabins and never eat out - it's just too much of a headache with three little ones. But we LOVE the Trail's End. That is now a fun tradition on our trips.

If you go in the evening, beware that the settlement area (Trails End) becomes overrun by those waiting to see the Hoop De Doo. But you can try to catch a hay ride. Reasonably priced and very nice.

If you go during the day with kids, there's also the petting zoo and playground. You can also get there by bus or boat. Enjoy your visit.

Fort Widerness is not just a campground ... it is an extension of the Disney philosophy seen at every park and resort. The customer is a 'guest', not a number or profit unit.

There is no place like FW, and we have been to lots of CG's around the country. The 'magic' is experienced by everyone, from 'Class A' motorhome to tent camper ... everyone is treated as a guest and family member.

We have owned several motorhomes over the last four years, and each is broken in by a trip to FW ... and we live in northern IL.

We just got back from FW ... didn't even go to the parks. Just drove our golf cart around and talked to 'guests'. All were very friendly and shared our love of Disney and FW.

You will not find any other CG where the employees (castmembers) make such an effort to ensure you and your family are having such a wonderful time that you will be talking about it for years to come.

My wife and I first went to WDW a few times in the mid 1980s before my son was born and stayed offsite. It took us several years to return. Each time we wanted to when my son was of age, something happened. Finally after years of RVing with inlaws we bought our own motorhome in 2002 and we decided Disney would be one of our destinations. When we read about Fort Wilderness it sealed the deal.

Since then we bought a golf cart and most recently a Gem electric car (just a fancier golf cart really) and tow one or the other down with us.

We have have been to a number of campgrounds in our years of "camping" and Fort Wilderness is far and above any we have experienced. In my opinion it sets the standard by which all others should be judged. The cost, although more expensive than some KOAs and Mom and Pop CGs, is very competative. The summer before we returned to WDW, we paid about the same per night at a Yogi Bear "resort" and believe me it was nothing close to Fort Wilderness.

We are confirmed fans of the Fort and plan on getting there at least once a year from now on. It is why we go, not necessarily the parks. Our last trip, 12/19-12/30 we went to the parks 3 days! The rest of the time we spent enjoying Fort Wilderness.

This resort has so much to do not to mention provides a relaxing atmosphere that many guest stay there and never enter a park.
I worked at several of the resorts and the guest at FW were the friendliest and frequent returnees.
