We just picked up our new fifth wheel last week and are venturing out to FW August 19-26, 07. There are 6 families going, so we should have a blast.
My question, how bad are the tolls from CT to the Fort, going thru NJ and 95 all the way down? Would we be better off taking an alternate route to avoid the tolls? We are getting mixed info, some saying take 81 and connect to 95 that way, some saying just do 95 all the way down.
Any info on this would be appreciated.
We just want to get there without spending all our extra money on tolls. The gasoline alone is going to be a major expense, so any way we can cut the cost will be great.

I leave from Upstate NY so take 81 then 95, there are no tolls on either of those roads.

Christinou,
Where do you connect from 81 to 95? I have no idea on directions and I'm trying to figure this all out. We will be driving from Buffalo and staying August 12-24 in our hybrid trailer. :Pinkbounc

Hi wifeofjack

I might be able to help as we travel to New Hampshire to see family. We live in MD, not far from 95 and travel to the beaches in NH. From MD south, tolls aren't an issue. We took the motorhome up last summer and we drove north on 95 almost the entire way, coming home we took a different route. (I'd be happy to PM you the directions as well as how to connect to 95) The tolls are pretty stiff starting in Delaware traveling north and never stop. I personally found NYC no fun in a motorhome either, but it is the most direct route, the fewest miles and the quickest barring traffic and construction. Staying off of 95 in the northern states will save you tolls, gas (prices are better off of 95) and offer a little piece of mind.

All together I think we spent about $23.00 dollars in tolls on the trip north.

Oh, one thing I will mention, north of PA there are very very few RV ready travel plazas, further south you will find travel plazas RV friendly and fully equiped.

We go 81 to 15 then 270 to 495 in Washington then 95, the loop around washington is the worst part of the trip.....
We have done it many many times, and it is a long trip but well worth it.

It would be way south of Washington as in South Carolina, you might want to use mapquest to see what the best route for you is
