FW expansion/upgrade ( long )

May I point out, you can now use your DVC points at FW. That is our plan for the future. With all the point we own, we will be able to stay for a good long time.

That's our plan for someday too. We hope to eventually have enough DVC points to be able to spend a good part of the winter at FW each year. We're a long way off still, but I can see add-ons in our future! :)

We are dvc members since 2000. We love the flexability of being able to use our points for any of the disney world properties. Last year was the first year they added fw. We stay 2 weeks in Feb and are doing 3 weeks Feb 07. Patsy :wave2:

Alright, it's been a couple weeks since the last post and some of you said you were going to FW to snoop in the woods. Did you find anything ?

Brad- I wasn't one that offered to snoop in the woods, but we were there for Thanksgiving week, and we snooped anyway. :rotfl2: We rented a golf cart, and were all over Ft. Wilderness several times. There are no signs of anything being marked for construction or being cleared. Nothing is going on.

I snooped around as much as possible and didn't see anything either. The only place I didn't look because it's off-limits is the road between the Creekside Meadow group camping area to Wilderness Road (think I have the road name right. It's the road the follows the bike path). Since that's a "cast member only" area it's hard to know if they are expanding in that area.

I did go down the Wilderness Rd, past the sign that said "cast members only", there is NO construction going on there! I was slightly disappointed, I really wish there were more campsites available.

So is someone just having a good laugh somewhere?

Same here, I was on that road several times on the Purple bus and on my scooter.

Also on the path between Ft. Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge several times and really no sign of anything going on in that area.

Disney has a great way of hiding things from ground dwellers. But how do you hide something that can be seen from above the ground? :thumbsup2

But they can't hide the permits they have to apply for in order to do construction. I have seen permits that would be applicable to DVC construction at Contemporary, DVC construction for AKL, some major project by the new Western Way, but nothing for the area near FW. That area that would APPEAR to be being cleared by air in reality was "cleared" by a hurricane a couple of years ago. Until permits appear, even preliminary work cannot begin.

Just returned home from the fort yesterday, I did ask around and all the CM I asked said they had not heard of any expansions for FW but one did say that there is another park planned.

So how about a big rig "resort" in the south end of the Magic Kingdom parking lot, near the race track? Use a couple parking spaces to make one "site" and add hook ups in nicely done themed islands. I'm sure Disney could do it in such a manner to make it nicer than any other big rig type resort.

Might even be done as a temporary setup that could be used for parking vs. camping as needed.

Leave the existing Fort Wilderness as is. My 2 slide, 31' motorhome fits just fine.

Add some trees and concierge and maybe they will come.;)

Went today to the Florida RV Supershow and FW had a booth set up with 3 cast members and 1 of them was in management at FW, so I asked the question, "Is it true that FW will be expanded?" I was told that it is not going to be expanded but rather renovated.

He said some of the sites will be improved and enlarged but there will not be any new sites added, he also said the recreation dept is discussing a new pool (maybe with a slide) and they are also talking about restoring the Wilderness Swamp Trail.

He also said the 1500 loop CS is closed to be renovated as well as the one in either 1200 or 1300, he said the 2000 loop CS will be renovated at some point in the future. Maybe someone who is there can verify about 1500 and 1200 or 1300?

This CM was very friendly and helpful and was not at all reluctant to discuss the changes going on, he did say the plans about the pool and Swamp trail were in the discussion phase by WDW Recreation so he was not sure when those changes may take place. He also said that there is ALOT of attention focused on FW right now, so hopefully we will see some good things to come.

Thanks for the update!! :goodvibes I hope this guy knew what he was talking about.

A nice themed pool with a slide would go a long way toward making a lot of folks happy..including me. Long over due.
Why is it that the Wilderness Swamp trail was closed anyway? I'm not familiar with it..just by photos I've seen her on the boards.

Permits Disney does no need to poll permits as you know them every thing is Reedy Creek which is a Disney owned city.

We were there just this weekend and stayed in the 1400 loop. I did not pay attention to the loop # or location--but there indeed was one loop closed that was being worked on...I would have to assume extensively since it was closed entirely. It was one of the ones on Big Pine Drive (I think--the road you take to 1400..whatever that is called.)

Had I seen this thread earlier--I could have done a better job at being Sherlock Holmes.

I was there last weekend and the 1500 loop is closed (had some white gates across the entrance). The gates were open so I took a quick drive around in the golf cart, but not much was going on yet. There are bunch of supplies (dirt, coquina, etc) on a few of the sites, but no major changes yet. I'll be out there again next month and will see what progress/changes have been made.
