FW expansion/upgrade ( long )

How about a more premo new FW Resort section with it's own themed pool, cable and internet standard, pull throughs and large back-in sites.

That wishing star is getting closer.

I wouldn't mind having a reservation there!...especially the themed pool. This has been an issue with my family. My kids are used to the themed pools at the resorts..especially at the Wilderness Lodge. When I mention going to FW...the biggest gripe I hear is that the pool is boring. Now, if you have little ones, they aren't going to know the difference. However, we have teens, and we've been going to Disney since the early 90's. They KNOW the difference, and want to be where a themed pool is.

John, will this new resort have cabins or just campsites?

Will the themed pool be available for all FW quests or just those in the new section?

I dont mind that Fort Wilderness doesnt have themed pools. The only bad thing is the lack of a water slide. I wouldnt really want a hotel at Fort Wilderness, it kind of makes it loose its feel of a campground with a hotel in the middle of it, but if they made some more loops just for bigger campers it would be a great addition. With the bigger RV's all going there it could really make the old loops feel more open.

I was told by a close insider that there are new sites (for cabins and campers) being cleared across from the 2000 loop. I don't know how true this is, so you may want to correct me if I am wrong. Something like 400 new sites and 300 new cabins? :confused3 I also heard from a different source that the campground may get a new zero entry pool with a slide within the next year. Still not sure if the pool will be in the new section or if they will redo the old pool. Also heard that while the pool is being redone (if they redo the existing pool) the campers are free to hop to the WL or Cont Resort pool. Boy, won't that set off a whole new topic for the guest with reservations at those two resorts! :rotfl2:

Feel free to correct anything that is not right. Just passing on idle gossip.

I am definetly going to spend a day of my Christmas vacation scouting for the new areas. Its funny that our family discussed the possible places for expansion at FW and came up with the same areas that were outlined on the GIS map.
You gotta love Google earth.... :thumbsup2

Wow, I finally started a topic that created some interest. :cloud9::thanks:

Would you give up FW currant location for a brand new FW somewhere else on the property?

Part of Ft. Wilderness' charm for me is that it is in Mickey's back yard, I've considered staying at the all-stars before but we love to camp and at Ft. Wilderness the Magic Kingdom is *right there*. If there were 2 sections to FW, the one we know and love, and a new one with cool slide and other goodies, I would still want to stay in the original (assuming that by somewhere else on property you mean farther away than the possible new area adjacent to FW).

Giving up where FW sit now maybe to a new DVC hotel, But Getting a Brand new hi tech FW with all the room for today’s new rigs and a great themed pool, cable and internet.

Considering all of the open space that Disney has to build on, I cant see them tearing down a profitable resort to build another one.

It's been my observation that baby boomers who are just now hitting their stride are RV'ing more. I see more big rigs at college football games, on the road, and in the campsites. It used to be when driving that a pretty girl in a fast looking car caught my eye; now it's the 40' diesel Class A with the triple slides! :cool1:

Disney did away with the Winter Settler's rates (several month rate) a few years ago because of increased regular demand. Even off season there seems to be lots of folks there. Cabin discounts (which I've taken advantage of in the past) are fewer than in the past which would also reflect increased demand.

Also, while I love FW I have been confused by Disney's reluctance to accomodate bigger rigs and update pools. I think a DVC-type arrangement that expands over toward Wilderness Lodge (the DVC villas there are few in number so they might expand out toward FW as well) would work well. Leave the current FW for those who want to pay by-the-night and use the DVC portion for those who want to pay for the premium experience.

Being as thrifty as I am (with my little pop-up I love) I would have to run the nums to see if a DVC model would work for me but I bet it would work for lot of folks. I didn't buy DVC because I had a camper already and couldn't justify the additional expense. We shall see...I'd like to have more guests experiencing the outdoor experience at FW/WDW-We love it!

May I point out, you can now use your DVC points at FW. That is our plan for the future. With all the point we own, we will be able to stay for a good long time.

Since we're not likely to buy one of those fancy new RVs and it's nice to get a break from TV and internet, I'll choose location over a spiffy relocated FW.

My kids are still little, so the themed pool has not been an issue yet. DH likes the pool slides though. :)

I would be interested in a DVC for campers! That would be cool. I guess I never realized it might be hard to accomodate our slide outs since I haven't camped there since 1993 (yikes!) and I didn't have a slide out then.

Of course I love FW the way it is now, so it's a struggle within :rotfl2: :lmao:

We'll be there one week from today. I'll be sure to look around for construction zones, equip, etc.
