We’re trying to decide where to stay for a trip next summer. The cabins are a great option for us (group of 6) because it is significantly cheaper than having to pay for two rooms. However, we are a bit concerned about the bussing logistics. Which cabin loops are the best with regards to bussing/is it really as big of a deal as it appears to be? Are any of the loops within walking distance to the main bussing station? We have always stayed at POR, so paying for two rooms there is our other option. Thanks!

Here is an older post from @Jimsig that explains cabin loop distance very well.

Without a car or golf cart if you stayed in either the 2800 or 2700 loop you would be in walking distance to the outpost to get the buses to everywhere except MK. We found if we missed an internal bus to the Outpost it was quicker to walk The internal bus stop is at the end of the loops and you could even walk to the pool for the cabins.

The 2600, 2500, and 2400 cabins would be a further walk to the outpost but near the pool for the cabin.

The 2300 and 2200 loop you would want to take the internal bus to the Outpost but could still walk to the cabin pool.

Below is a chart I made up using google maps so the distances are approximate. Hope it helps.

edit: It didn't format quite right so the first mileage is for the Outpost, second for the pool for the cabins, 3rd for the Meadows, and last for the Settlement. I will try and fix it later. The front of the loop means by the Peacock Pass and back means at the furthest part of the loop to Peacock Pass.

Can I ask, why are you limiting yourself to picking between 2 resorts?

Thank you for the responses! We are 'limiting' ourselves to two resorts because we have always stayed at POR, but have never had to get two rooms. So, we are trying to look for options for 6 that don't break the bank. The cabins are one of the very few options. We've thought about AoA as well, but haven't looked as closely into it.

I agree, I would take a look at one of the Family Suites at AoA - they are in line with pricing at FW in the Cabins. IMO, AoA is pretty easy to get around and the buses were pretty good. We're a fan of their food court as well.

We stayed at FW cabins last year and had a great time. The higher numbered cabin loops are closest to the depot bus stop (checkin and parking area) but it can still be a bit of a walk. The internal buses will drop you off at the depot or the settlement (marina, HDDR, Trails End) so you don't have to walk and they run all the time. Also, the buses don't actually go into any of the loops, you have to walk out to the main road to catch the bus. It's not bad but depending on how far into the loop you are, that adds a few minutes of walking as well.

I'll add that we did rent a golf cart which made getting around the campground, which is very large, quite convenient. The downside is that it significantly raises the cost of staying there. ($60+ a day). But I do think it's manageable to use the buses as primary mode of transportation if necessary.

There's a FW thread with all kinds of great information on the resorts board that I found very helpful when planning my trip. Good luck!
