We are a family of 5 booked at POR with a trundle bed and I am beginning to worry about space for luggage... so I started looking at the cabins at FW.

The videos I looked at did not show much space for luggage at in the cabins either. Anyone care to let me know how the space is??

Are the cabins far from the trading post? Do you need to rent a golf cart to get
around? Where do you park the cart if you take it to the trading post? Can you leave it thee to take the boat to MK?

Thanks!

I travel by car and pack everything , even clothes in totes. I was trying to figure this out also.

I planned on stacking up the clothing totes in the bedroom and the end of the bunk bed. From the pics it looks like the ladder is on the left and there is plenty of clearance.

The two cabinets in the living room also has space on top ( if you stick the phone to the side) for things.

If you have a handicapped cabin it looks like it has a big bathroom with room for stuff under the sink and to the side od the shower . Thats where I will put our health and beauty tote and towels.

You might also be able to slide a thinner tote or bag under the bunk bed from the far end near the ladder. The side looks lower on the longer side.

Towels are supplied and there is also a closet as well as a small dresser in the bedroom.

The area under the bench at the kitchen table will hold at least two big suitcases or the equivalent. There is also an elevated (wrong word, I know, but I hope you know what I mean) cabinet in the hallway that holds the pack and play that can hold stuff. Plus the two areas on either side of the Murphee bed, which hold a lot and the areas on top that you could put a suitcase. Then there's the closet and the vanity area in the bedroom.

When we first started staying in the cabins, I was worried about space for suitcases, but once I found the area under the kitchen table bench and the hallway cabinet, we had no trouble. We love the cabins and hope you do too! :goodvibes

We are a family of five and have no major problems.
My wife and I use the two cabinets in the living room on either side of the trundle bed. Our 8 year old uses the cabinet under the TV in the living room. My other two daughters use the drawers in the bedroom and my mother uses the closet in the bedroom. We then store the empty bags under the beds in the bedroom or the closet in the hall. Yes you have more room at home but it can be done.
Remember you dont have to over pack...The wilderness pool, which you would be close to has laundry machines and I know there are many others scattered about the campground in comfort stations.
Last year we had to get a handicap cabin because of my mother, and although it didn't increase the storage space Im refering to, it did give us more space in the bathroom and overall more walking around room. So in essence you have more room to leave things out; like a suitcase if you wanted to live out of that.
The only time we felt tight or cramped was if we all tried to have a meal at the same time ie:dinner. The table is small so somebody usually had to eat at the couch but no biggy either thats only an arms length away from the table.
I have not stayed anywhere else so I cannot comment on others accomodations
but we have stayed there for years and will continue to do so.
Keep in mind also, Im the only male in my party of five, so if it was gonna be small or tight I would be the first to know!

As for Golf carts they are a somewhat of a luxury and not necessary. It all depends on your parties needs and wants.
They cut down on your wait time for buses for activities or if you need to go to the store. However they are expensive if rented within the campground. There is the option of renting a golf cart from an off property vendor which from what I understand is cheaper, but we have never done that so someone else would have to comment or provide the info.
There is adequate parking depending on the time of your visit (peek time is more congested).
The only time restrictions on parking is at the outposts and I believe that is 15-20mins, which is more than adequate
If you decide to walk, from the furthest most cabin to the Meadows Trading Post(which is the closest of the two) is propably 20+mins, Wilderness Pool no more than 10, Meadows Pool 25mins, Settlement Trading Post, Marina and Trails End Resteraunt 35mins, these are ball park figures and your fitness, for the last three I would suggest waiting for the bus, it would be quicker

We went as a family of six. I think we had 6 suitcases and our carry ons and we had plenty of room.

Thanks Littlejoe!! you too satori...

Since all of the other posters answered any issues with storage I just wanted to add that we love the cabins!! We've stayed in deluxes, DVCs and moderates including PO and it just makes me kinda laugh that FW Cabins is considered a moderate when you have all the luxuries and then some of a deluxe.;)

It's awesome having that kitchen and what I love most is the privacy, no one sharing a common wall or a common floor. No one walking right by your front door and the beautiful surroundings when you do walk outside your cabin. There's nothing like FW anywhere else in WDW.:goodvibes And, many of the amenities are a walk away or a quick bus ride so it's pretty convenient. We'd love to try to the horse rides next time.

You don't have to have a golf cart, it's a nice perk but not a necessity. For our last trip in Feb. dh brought up our bikes in his truck (we are lucky that we are a car ride away) and there was nothing like riding our own bikes throughout a WDW resort.:lovestruc

This is also our first time staying in the cabins. Very, VERY excited, especially after reading so many great posts on staying at Ft. Wilderness! Our last trip we stayed at the Polynesian and (sad to say) wasn't impressed at all. Seriously hoping that Ft. Wilderness becomes our goto place each time we visit. Just from the pictures we've seen on this board it looks absolutely beautiful! And quiet time after the parks is key for us.

Family of 3, btw.

Are all the cabins decorated in the mountain theme as seen on the WDW sight. We will visit for 1st time and children will be expecting to see that decor

All of the cabins look like the pictures on the web site.

By the way, we love the cabins. We spend about a month each year at the Fort during Jan/Feb. For 5 years, we stayed in our pop-up camper. the last 3 years, we stayed in the cabins.

We have the kids and their families come a week at a time. We have between 2 and 6 people during our stay. We find that there is plenty of space. The beds are okay. The kitchen is great. We love the peace and quiet.
