Curiousity is peaked re the FW cabins. How do you get around, get to the bus stop, boat, etc? Is it lit at night on the path to your cabin, etc?

Are talking at the Wilderness Lodge or Fort Wilderness? Two different resorts. I can help, a little with the FW cabins. There are internal busses that stay within FW, 2 on each of the three routes running opposite directions of each other. From the cabins you would walk to the end of your loop where the bus stop is and wait for the bus heading in the direction you are going. The marquee on the bus tells where it is heading at that time, Settlement, which is where Trails End, HDDR, Meadows pool, if you are on the Orange route bus and the marina to catch the boat to MK, or the smaller boat to Contemporary and Wilderness lodge. The other direction will take you to the Outpost to get the busses to the other parks and DS.

There are golf carts that you could rent and get around that way also, with plenty of parking at the Meadows pool and outdoor movie, Settlement and Outpost. Cost of cart is 59.00 a day, and reservations are recommended, but not required ( depending on what time of year you go).

As far as lighting, I have never been in the cabin loops at night, but I would have to say there is some lighting. There is lighting on the sidewalks around the Fort.

Hope some of this helps. Enjoy your trip.

There is an internal bus system, with 3 different routes. They run frequently. It is over a mile, as the crow flies, from the front to the back of the Fort. It is a very large area.
You will get more info on the Camping Thread, where the experts on all things Fort Wilderness hang out.

Sorry meant FW cabins!

Hi. It wouldn't hurt to bring some little flashlights. Disney does not over-light anything and we found that walking sometimes can be a little tricky because of the low lighting outside of the cabins.

I recommend Loop 2500. The walk to the bus is short, it's a small loop. It's right next door to the laundry and the quiet pool. We love it there.

I have stayed at FW many times and I did not rent a golf cart. I did request to be close to a bus stop, and was granted my request. You could also request to be close to the Outpost, as there are cabins within walking distance and all transportation except MK leaves from there, and you can catch a bus to the Settlement from there for MK connections.

You do get full housekeeping in the cabins. Dining (other than preparing your own) is less convenient than staying in a regular resort because of having to travel to the Settlement or Meadow, but the food is good otherwise.

The cabins are more peaceful than most resorts and I find I like to schedule more down time when I stay there to enjoy the amenities.

I think they meant housekeeping servicing the room, not food, but you are correct about no food room service. I was surprised they didn’t have any food delivery at all, at least when I stayed there. I would have expected pizza delivery like the values, delivered via golf cart.

I did mean about housekeeping but you answered another question anyway, for me, re the food.THank you!

We've never been close to the bus stop and it's not a far walk from the cabin. I did take a flashlight but only used it when coming back from the campfire. I never carried it to the park and was fine walking back in the dark. It was lit enough.
