I'm a little nervous. We just rented a cabin for Oct and now I'm worried. We've never stayed at FW but have stayed at many of the other WDW resorts (WL included). Is FW Cabins very isolated?? Is transportation to the parks difficult?? I really think it will be fun but I guess I'm just nervous. Any advice or tips?? Pro/Cons? Thanks soo much.

We stayed in the cabins in 2005 and really had a wonderful stay! They are very spacious and clean and it was nice to be able to put the kids to bed in one room and still have the rest of the cabin to hang out in. Mousekeeping came in every day and even did dishes (if we left any). We didn't have any issues with transportation to the parks. We loved riding the boat to the MK! I didn't feel isolated at all. I think you will have a great stay in the cabins!

The cabins are great, you'll love them, don't even worry about it! Trust me, it's just like a hotel room inside, just with more beds...lol.

The cabins are not isolated at all, it's like most of the Fort, it's just a big campground, and you'll have neighbors all around you, trust me, I doubt you'll feel isolated (unless having lots of trees around you makes you feel isolated...lol).

Transportation to the parks is just like any other hotel at Disney, most of the time it's easy, sometimes there is a wait. But this is Disney, they have transportation down to a science, there will be plenty of ways for you to get to whichever park you desire.

As long as you don't mind the outdoors feel, and you don't want flat panel TV's and jacuzzi tubs, you'll have a blast, trust me ;)

I have stayed at many different Disney resorts from value to deluxe as well as the cabins and RV camping. The cabins are great for all the reasons the previous posters gave. If you really like the amenities of a resort (room service, food court, etc you may miss that) but having a kitchen and grill are great benefits. You can bring your own groceries or have some delivered.

Fort Wilderness is more laid back and relaxing, in my opinion. In October there should be a haunted Hayride, you may have to buy tickets ahead of time.

It is nice to try different places, it makes each trip a little new and exciting. This board will give you all the info you could possibly need, so ask away!

Okay..I'm gonna differ here a bit. When we stayed in them..I found them to be a bit "removed" from the amenities that the campground offers. That being said...FW is great!:thumbsup2 I think if you look at the map of the Fort..you can see where the cabin loops are a bit a way from the Meadow and Settlement areas. http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/fortwilderness.htm
They are loops 2200 to 2800. As I remember we were in the 2700 or 2800 loop..not so crazy about it. I think if you were to request loop 2200 you would be in closer proximity to the Meadow Trading Post..and main pool area, than we were. If you don't have bikes...then I think when staying in the cabins, renting a golf cart is a good idea. We didn't have one at first..but after a couple of days of schlepping kids and strollers on and off the bus in the August heat..we did rent one and it made getting around the fort significantly more convenient.;) The water launch itself to the MK is great..scenic, leisurely way to go. Only getting to the marina from the cabins was a hike. Waiting for the bus was not always convenient. Again, we were there in August and dealing with the heat and humidity..not to mention thunderstorms in the late afternoon. So..again the golf cart was very convenient...and a whole lot of fun too! The cabins themselves are very nice and you will have all the amenties of a resort plus a kitchen. I would think in October you will make good use of the deck and BBQ should you choose to also. I would try to arrange for a cart rental rom the bike barn..and if you find you don't need it..you could always turn it in. I think having one available to you, would remove any hesitation as to whether the location is or isn't to your liking. It wouldn't matter. If you find you don't need it..all the better.

I agree, if you don't want to take the buses internally or externally, I would suggest getting a golf cart, as they are quite a bit away from the main entrance and/or marina.

We too had a great time in the cabin. One great thing is you still have mousekeeping. They come everyday to straighten up (even run the dishwasher for you). Having a kitchen for as many meals as you care to make comes in very hand. Kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans, etc. Just bring your food and yourselves. :goodvibes

Thanks everyone. Yes, mousekeeping everyday is a huge plus. Its nice to come home to a straightened neat room. Do the cabins have plates and utensils in the kitchen?? Do they have the tools I'll need to grill ? Grill tongs etc...?? I guess I should buy my own charcoal when I order my groceries. I will definately rent a golf cart. Lugging 3 kids would not be fun.

They have utensils and plates and most everything you need there. Yes, you will have to buy groceries and they have a selection at the trading posts, at a higher price that you would pay in the grocery store, but that is to be expected. If you have a car, you can go off property and there are plenty of places to buy groceries. Just do yourself a favor and not hit the first spot off property because you will probably pay higher than the trading posts for things. They also have minimal grilling tools, not much.

You can do a one-way car rental with Alamo. You pick it up at the airport and then check into the Fort. After that, you can drive off property (I suggest the Winn Dixie that is just ouside and down the street from DTD). Purchase your groceries, return to the Fort and unload them into your cabin, and then drive to the Alamo Care Care Center which is not to far from the Poly. Alamo will shuttle you back to the Fort, and you are all set!

We saved lots of money and it was easier b/c we didn't have to wait in lines at restaurants for many meals.

There is a grocery delivery service that many people use..even when staying in the resorts. I think even with the delivery charge that would be less expensive than renting a car simply to go grocery shopping. Unless of course you plan to use it for more than that.

There are 5 of us and we have stayed in the cabins every year since 2002. It's perfect for our family. We have 3 kids (4, 6,10) and the cabins give us pleantly of room to move. Love taking the boat over to MK. :goodvibes

Thanks everyone. I rented a car for a few days of our 12 day trip to go to SW and shop. It was nice not having to bother w/it the whole time. I picked it up & dropped it off at the car care center. Very convenient. We used ME to come & go at the airport.
