Future Snowbirds..where would you choose in Florida?

Well, those New Yorkers were simply just stating facts about how pizza and Italian is superior in the Northeast ;). I seriously cannot believe you snapped at strangers in a restaurant over something so inocuous...who does that?

Of course, I think most of us know that one can find excellent Italian in that area of the Northeast.
As I posted earlier.... It is WAY more than that.
While that person shouldn't have 'lost it' over those comments... I can see how that was just the wrong comment and the wrong time to put the over the edge.

Still LOVE that bumper sticker I mentioned!!!!!!

I love the Weeki Wachee/Homosassa area. It isn't beachy and doesn't feel as touristy as the other parts of Florida I've seen, and I love the whole "nature coast" vibe of state parks and rivers and all of that. But I really don't want to snowbird. I want to move there year-round, permanently... which unfortunately looks like it'll have to wait until the kids are grown because the one thing that doesn't impress me about the area is the schools, but that isn't terribly far off.

Like we owe them for coming here.

In general people in the NE are just ruder. I grew up in the midwest, went to college there, too, then moved to the Northeast and have been here for 22 years and I will tell you the stereotype of rudeness and coldness of people is true, at least from my perspective. People can still tell I'm not from here because they say I am too nice and they are Northeasterners.

I have friend in Weeki Wachee. I lke that there are so many nice sized lots there

We need to be careful about negative stereotypes here!!!
If we do not want to be portrayed with negative stereotypes, we should not promote them!

So, just in the interest in being fair...
I once organized a gathering with well over 100 people, from many areas of the US.
This is here in the South, where we are supposed to be more open and friendly.
The absolute nicest couple that atttended were from.... NJ!!!!!!

Dh and I are talking about moving to the Jacksonville area. I am going to assume the last place a snowbird would go. DS lives there and Dd wants to move to Tennessee when she graduates in April. It just seems farther up north so it’s not as hot but you don’t get snow. Who knows it’s just talk now. The only thing I know for sure is I don’t want a 55+ community. I enjoy living with all ages and would miss being around children.

You (and OP, actually) might look at Fernandina Beach/Amelia Island. Such a beautiful little town north of Jax.

We live on Marco Island. From May to Christmas our population is about 15,000. From Christmas to Easter it's about 40,000. We are an island and it really fills up during the season. We went to the grocery store this morning at 8AM to avoid the crowds. If you try to go later in the morning or during the afternoon, you might find it hard to find a parking place. Our church goes from three services on the weekend, to eight during the season. There are more out of state (and Canadian) license plates during the season than Florida license plates. We like to find the furthest away plate that we can find.

Our beach is beautiful. Not too far from the Everglades. Lots of boating, fishing, shelling. And the Walmart is six miles away across the bridge.

We're going on spring break there! We're in our early 50's, and want to try out as many different regions in Florida as possible. I'm guessing hurricanes have driven insurance rates sky high, so would prob do a several winter months type rental, as opposed to buying a second home there.
