Future points transfer question

So I have a question that is 3 years ahead of it's time.

We are planning on taking our extended family to Aulani in April of 2019 (see I told you). We will need 900+ points. My use year is August but I'd prefer not to use any of my own points (MIL is footing the bill and doesn't want us dipping into our own points). When should I start to think about looking for points? For some reason I can't wrap my mind around that many points.

Good luck finding someone who wants to transfer that many Aulani points. You may be booking on a cash reservation.

You can only receive one transfer per use year. You can bank transferred points, but I don't believ you can borrow them. So, you'd be looking for one person who could transfer 450+ points in 2017 and again in 2018 (or 2018 and 2019, since transfered points retain the owners use year). That could take a while to find.

Have you considered renting a reservation (or several)? I don't know how much demand there is for the rooms you want; do you really need the home resort advantage?
