Future of WISH Shirts - Everyone Needed

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the shirt in the OP - but I'm sure it violates copyright laws.

I know I said I wouldn't, but one last question. What copyright law does using a personal picture of a publicly accessible structure on a shirt violate? The shirts are not being sold for profit, and, to my knowledge, Disney owns no copyright to any picture that I may take at WDW when I am on vacation. Please know, however, that we do not intend to do anything with eye2eye that would possibly ire Disney as that is one of the main meeting grounds for the team. Also, keep in mind that CafePress is a business selling products on-line for profit. My understanding was that we would be ordering shirts and selling them at cost plus shipping.

What a talented group WISHers are! So many choices! I understand how confusing this is for the team!!

I think the reason we started looking at other shirts was because of the weight of the original shirts. Even though they are wicking material, it is a heavy material to be walking/running in. I think the design and the color combine to make an identifying statement for our team. I WISH RaceReady could get the same safety yellow. I hate to see us lose our "glow in the dark" shirts ;), but understand the need for a lighter shirt.

The new designs are a wonderful creation; however, I think we're trying to cram too much stuff onto one shirt. If our point in wearing team shirts is to get the message out that 1) we're staying healthy through exercise, and 2) putting forth the effort to walk/run an event is just as valid as finishing; we want to keep it simple.

Okay.. I have NO idea what is going on.. but... I certainly don't want anyone's feelings hurt... This is a group that is about caring for each other, inspiring one another, and encouraging one another. So.. PLEASE.. let us not lose sight of that.

We are a TEAM... as a TEAM.. we should represent with the same uniform..... Personally, I think that as long as the WISH logo is on the front.. and the DLF DNF DNS saying is on the back..and the color is the same or really close... then rest is individual choice...

Thank you to all of you who take time from your personal lives to design, research and present these choices. I know this is quite a bit of work and I hope noone takes that for granted.

So... as a TEAM member.. my vote goes to whichever way works best for everyone. That probably doesn't help.. but..I wanted you all to know that you are appreciated and I thank you..

I love the shirts at the top of this thread. I am personally happy with the safety color. They can be seen for miles. Perhaps hundreds of miles. Also the new design with the disney icons is awesome. I don't really like the regular lime color.

The first time I EVER saw a Wish shirt, I immediately associated it with Disney. I suppose the word wish with the stars was part of it. Afterall, "when you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are...."

I would love to have the shirt without the icons. They don't suit me. I did not say that I don't want them, so you can't have them. I said, they don't suit me. I won't be wearing one, but that doesn't mean I won't let you.

I have a friend who is a copyright lawyer and has helped us with some Girl Scout stuff. Using a personal picture for PERSONAL use is not a problem. Selling it is based on things we have learned dealing with Girl Scout fund raising. Now that may not apply here. So Disney doesn't care if I make a Tshirt for my families vacation "saying the BUBBA FAMILY DOES DISNEY" with the castle/ears etc.

Now, when I put up a website selling my "BUBBA FAMILY DOES DISNEY (insert your name here) and sell them to you for your family vacation, then it crosses the line. I "THINK" it has to do with the fact that acutally Disney, Girl Scouts of the USA and other organizations copyright the IMAGE not just individual pictures. (I may have that wrong, but somehow they can protect the image of the castle for example so you can't show Cindy and Prince Charming getting it on in front of it LOL!)

(In other words my Girl Scouts can make cool t-shirts with the Birthplace on them to wear on thier trip, but selling them as the fund raiser gets us in trouble!)

I don't see the difference you do between Cafe Press and this shirt. I mean Eye2Eye isn't giving these shirts to us, they are also selling them for profit.

Now I am not a lawyer so this is just my take based on our issues with fundraising.

I also agree with the other poster "it's not about the shirt" at this point. It's become a lot more and it's going to get ugly fast! I have posted enough on here.

I will be running my races and I hoped to meet up with everyone but I kind of doubt the shirt issue is going to be resolved quickly and neatly which will make it harder for newbies like me to get involved.
Personally I think the solution is that all shirts are plain "lime" with the logo/sayings and then they will all "match" for the most part and people can go with cuts/styles fits they like best. (Personally the only shirts that I really like are made by Brooks, but.... LOL!)

Seeing as how I guess I am one of the almost original team members (Joined right after the 2005 marathon when I stumbled across it) I will chime in here with some of the history of us and shirts.

The first design was simple and done to get some type of shirt for the 2006 marathon. I have one somewhere but after January 2006 we thought it might be nice to do a different style shirt.

From what I recall, this last time we did a new design it seemed to take forever (probably only a couple of months actually) and everyone seemed to have what they though would be best for shirts. There were many discussions and lots of debating. Some people had their ideas squashed while others fought hard for theirs. This was in 2006 if I remember right, Carrie would probably know better since she did the orders though.

The reason we went with the original safety group maker was they were the only people who would print shirts on a "wicking" material. We looked at several different makers and no one would print on an acutal tech shirt. So we went with them.

These shirts did what was intended and enabled us to spot each other easily and help give others encouragement. However they are a pain to run in because it is so humid here. Tech shirts don't do well when it is 100% humidity outside, there is no where for the moisture to go. These shirts seemed to hold it in more and made you feel hotter compared to other tech shirts I have. While there have been several comments from us about the bright color, we all seem to enjoy it since it is easily spottable.

Now that there are a couple of other places to get printed tech shirts, we are looking into getting lighter weight shirts. Which brings us to the discussion at hand.

As for the official color, we have said lime green. The current shirts were as close as we could get to lime green so it was used. The same with the visors, bands, and everything else. Each company seems to have their idea of what lime is so there will be some inherent differences between colors.

The last design change happened when the group was probably half the size it is now. Now we are much larger (number wise) and that means there are more opinions.

My opinion is that we should keep the design as close to the same as possible. This takes away from people feeling the need that they need another shirt because that may be the new "official" logo. If it is the same design, then it doesn't really matter where the shirt is purchased from (except for the differences in color).

From what I remember recently, we looked at eye2eye but they took so long to respond, we went with the company who answered quickly. This was needed so we can get the shirts by May/Minnie (which takes alot of effort from Carrie and Mel, thanks guys). The thought was that if it took this long for a simple answer, how long would it take to get the shirts ordered and to people.

I realize that RaceReady doesn't do large sizes and I see where that can exclude people from buying the shirts. Just because you are part of the team doesn't mean you have to buy a shirt to be included either. Some people can't afford everything and that is fine. This can be another reason to keep the designs close to the same so that everyone can have the same design on the shirt and not feel different from the rest.

I think it is fine to get an order from eye2eye since they do seem to be able to accomidate more people. However I would be leary of changing too much of the design/wording just to keep things a little more consistent between everything. The main thing is not to fight about it though. We don't want to alienate/separate anyone from the group because they felt we didn't listen to them. We made it through the last round and I am sure we will make it through again but respecting other teammates is critical.

Sorry for the misspellings but I am an engineer and we just deal with numbers so this english/spelling thing is hard to understand. :lmao:

Okay.... I'll chime in as well.

I love the message of the original WISH shirt. I also like the abbreviations. It makes sense since this is a message board and we "talk" that way. KWIM? :rotfl:

And those things, esp. the message, are powerful things. However, I was not pleased with the shirts I bought. I have worn the tech shirt 3 times (3 races), and after the first washing, the hem started to unravel. I also have a cotton shirt that I have worn twice -- after the Minnie 5K last year and to scream in for the full this year. It is still in good shape, but the logo was put on crooked on both the front and back. Also, I'm sorry to say..... I don't like the color. I accept that lime green is "the" color of the DIS and so I do wear it if I expect to see other DISers. Also, I do like that it stands out at a place like Disney where we expect to see our WISH teammates. However, I would love to have a WISH shirt in another color that I could train in or wear around town. That way I could wear a shirt with a great inspirational message all the time -- not just during Disney events.

Also, I am a Disney Freak. (I even went and got a job there, so I could be part of the magic.) So, I like the eye2eye design, and I would wear it to places other than Disney races. (Of course, I wear my Disney Crocs almost everyday, too.) During a race, the runners on the shirt with the Mickey ears would probably be hidden by the bid making them even more "hidden." Also, when I describe our team, I describe us as a group of Disney fans that started working together to acheive and maintain a healthy lifestyle -- not a bunch of runners who then got hooked on Disney. (I hope that makes sense.)

And lastly, like others have mentioned, the raceready shirts are simply not an option for me because they don't come in my size. Even as I start to trim down, I don't know if they'll ever be an option. I always have to go up several sizes to accommodate "the girls." (I tend to lose and gain all over, so proportionally I pretty much stay the same. Okay, TMI.)

Now having said all that...... I really don't understand what the big deal is. As someone pointed out earlier, the color and the black WISH is what sets us apart at the race. If you don't like the printed shirt, then stick with the classic. If you do like the more Disneyfied shirt, then get the eye2eye. I don't think we all have to be matchy matchy.

However, I would still love to have a pink or white WISH shirt to wear around here.

Eva - Yours is teh first poor quality I have heard of from AlertSHirt. We tend to go cross-eyed packing them, so we likely iddn't notice. I wish I had known there was a problem, though, as I could have gotten you a refund.

Aloha WISHERS:

I've ordered both the original and the Race Ready shirts. I'll even consider the eye2eye shirt once it's finalized. As long as the WISH name is on it, that's good enough for me.

I already train and race in a Nike flourecent yellow shirt, so everyone can see me in the early morning and evening hours when it's dark. So I'm excited to be getting my official WISH shirts soon.

For this past Goofy weekend (2008), I made iron on t-shirts for my friend and I. I used the 15th Mickey Marathon logo on the front, and Chip and Dale laughing on the back with the saying "The squirrels are after me, they think I'm nuts." Then below that it said "13.1 Donald Duck Half + 26.2 Mickey Mouse Marathon = 39.3 Goofy." Somewhat similar to the grey Goofy longsleve t-shirt they sold at the expo.

We wore my homemade shirt throughout the parks, expo, resort, etc. We got lots of laughs and compliments. One person even asked if we bought it at the expo.

Not once did a cast member from Disney ever said anything like "that's a copyright infringement." Just my 2 cents. LOL.

Thanks to everyone (Carrie, Mel, and everyone else) involved in designing, ordering, and shipping the different styles of shirts, and visor/hats (soon). I know takes a lot of time and effort to coordinate, collect the money, ship, so MAHALO! the WISHERS appreciate all that you are doing to make us look good.

As a older Wish, 2005, I would like to say each of the choices have their ups and downs. Now the "Original Shirt" is great when it is cold and cooler but is way to hot if the temp is above 50, even the short sleeved. The race ready shirts are going to be a different color than the "Original" but I think that the message will stand out. I know the sizes do not accommodate everybody but guess what neither do the alert shirts. I have a small that comes down to my thighs. The race ready would not only give me the correct sizing but a cooler shirt to train and race in. Then there is the Eye2eye shirts that I really would only wear for Disney races. They can be ordered in quantities as little as one. The other shirts are not that fortunate. To be honest I like all three for very different reasons and really people should be allowed to chose for themselves. This gives every person an option that fits their lifestyle and size requirements the best.

"4. So if its not about "the shirt" what is it about? Belonging. and fair doesnt mean equal. Its not fair I cant fit into the RR shirts, or its not fair RR doesnt provide my size... does anyone remember a discussion about a shoe company that stated I was not a runner? that's how I feel about these shirts... I am not a runner, that's why they dont make them in my size. THIS WISH TEAM says different, they say I am a runner, they made me believe in ME.. and I truly appreciate that."

I totally agree.

Eva- Here is Sunny's site at cafepress: http://www.cafepress.com/livinglively/3912486. You can get the WISH team logo on a lot of different items, including hoodies and white t-shirts.

I certainly do not want to offend everyone here. I love you all! :lovestruc I appreciate the time that everyone has put into the shirts. I think I started all the trouble with eye2eye.

My vote is that we allow each team member to choose what shirt they would like to buy. The purpose of the shirt is for each of us to be able to recognize each other and provide support to each other along the course. Whether you are in a Race Ready, an eye2eye, or an original WISH shirt, we will cheer you on and support you just the same.

BTW, can I volunteer some of the men to model the eye2eye shirts when they come in? We really need a Mr. March. :rolleyes1

No worries, Carrie. Seriously. For as little as I wear them, it is fine. Also, I was just so happy to have one in time for last year's Minnie weekend, and I didn't think there would be time to get another one. Like I said, to me it is all about the message and that is very visible on the shirt.

Heather, thanks for the link. I'll go check it out.

I've never seen this site!! Thanks for posting!! (Eva they have one in pink - XL and 2xl to accomodate 'the girls" - I also have the same wants, needs, concerns, girl troubles!! lol)

I would also like to order an eye2eye shirt and have a model :rolleyes1 then post - I think that would make a big difference instead of speculating on the design and comparing and contrasting... and it would also be helpful to know if they can complete a shirt in a reasonable amount of time - what was posted about not getting a response for them is a valid concern!

the choices that have been made have been made with much thought, consideration, and appreciation for them to be available for the Minnie...

I say do all three and then let people decide what they want to order. That way nobody's feelings get hurt. :grouphug:

Wow, this thread has moved fast today! I might as well throw in my two cents as well. Having been around since early 2005, I have seen the history of our shirt for a little while. I still have and wear my 2006 WISH shirt that has no logo on the back.

I agree that I hope this isn’t a topic that ends up hurting feelings or causing too much debate. I really hope we don’t lose sight of the foundations of this team, and the respect and encouragement that has caused us to grow so large. If I had to choose between having 87 different shirt types and causing disunity and turmoil within this great team, I’d say bring on the 87 different shirts!

Having said that, my own opinion is that it would be great to have one team shirt. I know this may not be possible for all the reasons listed throughout the thread, but how many other “teams” on the race course have 4 or 5 different color/design/types of race shirts? I know there are variations, but the central logo and general theme basically remain the same for most teams. I have been told by many, many other non-WISHers that our teams really has a great presence at Disney for the races, and I think if we had 3 or 4 different designs and colors, this may not be the case.

I’m actually going to order another WISH shirt this year, but I was really hoping it would be the “official” team shirt, whatever that ends up being. I’m not picky, and even if I don’t like the shirt we choose, I’ll get one anyway because it represents everything that is great about our team (I mean hey, who REALLY looks good in lime green anyway??). :)

Steve

I'm confused. I thought the Race Ready would also be lime???

I was excited about the Race Ready cause the other WISH shirt I got came down to my knees. Course, I'm only 4"11". :lmao:

I'm confused. I thought the Race Ready would also be lime???
Yes, but their lime and the lime we have used are not teh same. Have not found any other wickign or tech material that is teh ANSI (Sefty stanadard) Lime. eye2eye is likely our best shot with that.

Well, I thought I would throw my two cents in on this subject. It seems to be a pretty divisive subject...

I have to say that I *LOVE* how bright the AlertShirts are because they certainly stand out. OK, confession....I haven't actually worn my shirt yet though so I can't comment on how heavy they can be in humid weather. I meant to wear it at the full this year but I realized I hadn't trained in it so I wasn't sure it was a good time to wear it for the first time.

I'm not particularly fond of how long the shirt is, so I like that the RR option comes in a womens style that will be a bit more flattering. I also like having a top that will be quite like most of my other running tops in my closet. While the colour won't be as bright I do like that the logo is essentially the same and really gets the message across. I'm sorry the sizes aren't more accomodating and that it makes people feel left out.

I think the most division is over how *different* the eye2eye shirts are. You either like the idea of graphics all over the shirt or you don't. Personally it isn't my style so for as many go arounds as we have on the design I would never order one for myself, but I certainly appreciate all of the creative effort that people are putting into it. I also appreciate that we wouldn't have to do a bulk order through eye2eye, folks could order on their own will throughout the year taking a lot of stress off of Carrie and Mel.

That being said, what if eye2eye made our original shirt design in a solid colour to keep all of the shirts looking as similar as possible? That way folks who want different styles or sizes would be accomodated and we could still look like a team out on the course.

Just a thought.
