Future Cruise Discount?

Good morning,
I am cruising in May and I'm considering another cruise, but not until May 2013.

So my questions are:

1) Can you book a dummy date and still get the discount?
2) Do you get a points discount and a cash discount if you do a combo booking on cash and points?
3) If you change the date, do you lose the original discount?

I know some people prefer to rent points, but I'm not interested in doing that. I also know they'll be a $95 fee to book and another $95 if I have to change the date later. I'm just not sure if it's possible or if it will be a good savings to book within 3 days of getting off the boat or not.

Thanks in advance :goodvibes

I don't know about a points booking and retaining the discount. I know that when you do a cash booking, you just book out as far as you can and then change the date, to retain all discounts. But with points, that would require another $95 fee. You will only receive an approx 10% savings on the points portion, the cash portion is a negotiated rate between DVC and DCL so it remains constant. That rate is usually higher than DCL's cheapest (meaning booking early) rates, but lower than DCL's full fare. Also all cash components of a DVC/DCL are due immediately upon booking. I'd call MS about your questions and ask them how you'd go about booking a May 2013 cruise to get the discount. You do have to call MS within 3 days of returning from your cruise to get the point discount. You also do not qualify for any OBC, as that's only for cash paying guests.

Thanks, I think I'll give them a call a couple of weeks before we sail to see if it sounds like it's worth it or not.

Thanks again :goodvibes

Can you tell me what you mean by this statement?

Thanks, Tiger

If you are referring to the bolded part, I think they may mean that in order to get the 10% booking discount using points, you have 3 days after your cruise to call DVC and book.

To get the the 10% cash discount you have to book while you're on board your cruise, but in order to book on points you have to call member services, so DVC gives you 3 days to do so. I'm guessing they give you time since they figure you need to get home, settle in, unpack, etc.

That is what I have heard, but I haven't done it before.

Thanks. I'm still confused as I didn't realize there was any DVC booking discount. Points are negotitated for the year for all crusies, so I have no idea what this is referring to?

I also haven't read that there is any applicable discount or promo while booking onboard, that is applicable to DVC points. I've heard the opposite, that you don't get to keep any of the OBC you would receive if paying cash - it doesn't transfer over.

It would be interesting to see how DVC would process an onboard booking into DVC points in terms of the lower deposit rate.

Thanks for the attempt to answer this for me, but I'm still not sure about it?

Disney Cruise Line offers a rebooking discount for all customers, cash and DVC points.

The cash clients book while on board. The DVC clients have 3 days to call Member Services after disembarkation in order to rebook. :)

So, you are saying that if I rebook with cash on my cruise, I can then call MS within 3 days, and get a reduced point cost, or, is it to get a reduced cash cost only if in combination with points (point/cash combo booking)?

Thanks, Tiger :)

I believe (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) that you actually don't book anything while on board, but you must call DVC within 3 days of your cruise to get a 10% point discount. I think if you do a combo of points and cash, you only save 10% on the points portion, because the cash prices are already set. From what I hear, the cash price may be higher through DVC than DCL, but if you wanted to use points for the first person to save money, then it may be worth it.
