Well it's getting exciting around here. I'm retiring form the Fire Service after 26 years soon. Recently I put in an application to work for our nearby Chevron plant as an operator. I was selected to test and passed. Then I got picked to interview next week. I have decided if I get hired I'm buying AP's for the family with my differed comp savings plan. Now if I can only make all this happen in time to sneak in a surprise Christmas visit to the Fort. The only thing left on my Disney bucket list is seeing the Christmas Castle and The Osborne Lights. Oh and purchasing a new Open Range Light Fifth Wheel.

Congratulations on your retirement and your future Disney plans! :woohoo:

Sounds like a busy retirement. Best of luck and good luck with travel plans to the mouse.

May all your bucket list dreams come true. pixiedust:

Congrats man. You guys aren't paid enough for what you do. I have a brother in law who currently is working on 25 years in the fire service.

I've been a volunteer 14 years and that has been rough enough, can't imagine how tough full time would be.

Good luck brother

Thanks Everyone. I'm am only retiring from the fire service. Due to the sad amount of my pension I will have to continue to work. But I'm trying hard to find a better paying job so I can provide better for my family. Hopefully Chevron will be the answer to my prayers. Depending on time off the Fort may see more of us next year.

Flametamr - Congratulations on retirement and I hope your new employment at Chevron will help your start to empty that bucket list of yours. The Castle at Christmas is great as are the Osborne Lights at Hollywood Studio.

As for the Open Range Light 5th Wheel - here is a link to an Open Range Owners Forum if you aren't already aware of it. It is 4000+ users strong and a great bunch of (friendly) owners. It may be a good resource for you.

Here is my last trip to The Fort when I still owned my second Open Range. I actually owned two Open Range campers before I moved to a used Class A in the beginning of the year. I still Host the Open Range Owners Forum I linked above. Good luck with your future and say travels.

Congrats!!! on being retired--well sorda if you get the job- who would not hire a fireman???? Hope you are able to giver your family a great DW surprise!!!

Congratulations on retirement. I dropped my papers in December and walked out the day I hit my 25 yrs. I miss some of the guys but I sure dont miss working all those hours. As it turns out, work was getting in the way of a lot of my free time. Now that I have gotten caught up around the house I am tying up some loose ends on the Open range and getting ready to head to the Fort this winter.
Good luck on the Chevron job.

Is this the last year for the Osbourne Lights or was it 2013?

Thanks Russ, I will join the forum soon. I have looked around already and we have decided to buy a Light 315. Probably before Christmas depending on this job thing and what deals we might find.

Flametamr - I hope the new job works out for you and you can start working on the Disney Bucket list. :)

Osborne Lights and the Castle are having the lights hung as of a couple weeks ago. Saw the crane at the Castle.

Anyone here have APs ? My question is if I get APs do you still get the three FP+ at 60 days out from your reservations ? Do you miss out on a short notice trip ?

AP is 30 days out
AP + on site stay 60 days out
Of course the magic band for AP
Hope this helps

Well my Chevron interview seemed to go very well. But I won't know for two weeks how I actually did. If all goes well and I get a start date in January I will turn in my papers and leave the Fire service just before Christmas. I plan on taking a few weeks off to catch up on some much needed clean up and repairs around the house. This past year I have had to work a ton of overtime to get by so things have deteriorated.

Well it seems I didn't get hired this round at Chevron. There is a small chance later but probably not. I still have 10 months to find something else to supplement my retirement. Not worried yet but my Disney hopes may be delayed.
