We are 1st time Disney cruisers, a family of 4 with an 11 y/o DS and an 8y/o DD. We are trying to decide between the two. I guess we want the best snorkeling of the two. Can anyone please give some input? Thanks:confused:

We did Playa Sol but our friends did the Fury Catamaran and still talk about how much fun they had. They said that the snorkeling was great and they margueritas were flowing for the adults. They were with their two children, 14 and 9.

We also did the Sail, snorkel and beach on a catamaran in Cozumel and had a blast. We all say we would do it again in a heart beat. That was the first excursion we did on a ship and loved it completely. You will not regret it.

jnc1970,

When are you cruising? We are on the 11/6 Magic and we plan on doing the Fury Catamaran excursion through DCL. The PassPorter's Guide to DCL rates this excursion as a 10 (I think, I'm at work and I don't have it in front of me!) :smooth:

We are really looking forward to it!

If you're considering the Disney snorkelling excursion to Chankanaab, I would NOT recommend it. We did this on the 2/28 Western with our 7-1/2 yr old DD, and had an awful time.

Although there were only 4 kids on the excursion (all older than my DD) they didn't have enough snorkel vests for the kids. My DD was given a ratty, torn PFD to wear instead! This made the snorkelling much harder for her. Also, it's a GUIDED snorkelling tour where you are expected to follow the guide in a group for one hour. The father of the other kids announced part-way through that they were leaving. We tried sticking it out, but our DD was very cold and tired after 45 minutes of constant swimming. We were parallel to the beach and she wanted to leave. The guide told us NO and insisted we stay with the group. I ended up piggy-backing a sobbing child for the final 15 minutes of the tour. In retrospect, I should have told the guide to get lost and left anyways, but I was too stunned to react at that time.

I've heard good things about the Fury Catamaran and snorkelling though - hope it works out for you! PM me if you have any other questions about Chankanaab.

My wife and I did Chankanaab and were not impressed. The shore line is rocky and the beach, what there is of it, is small. Also the place isn't all that clean. We would not do it again.

I would like to add my wholehearted praise to the Fury catamaran trip. My husband and I had a blast on it! The snorkeling area gets a little crowded, but the snorkeling was still good. The beach and the boat ride were also outstanding.

Have fun!

The Fury Cat trip is great. The boat is 65 feet with restrooms, etc. The guys were very helpful and the equipment was in good shape. We saw some beautiful fish. Make sure and ask them if they will get some tortillas to feed the fish. That really brings em in. After the snorkel, they break out the soft drinks, maragritas and Superior beer. (Which was pretty good.) They take good care of you, so don't forget to tip the ones that are really helpful.

Oh yeah, and the beach you go to is as good as it gets.

I highly recommend Fury. I went December last year with DD13,DD8, and DW. We all loved it. DD8 was a little sacred at first, so stay close to your little one til she gets used to the water.
Then try to keep up with her if you can.
