A Facebook friend is heading to Magic Kingdon for the day tomorrow for the first time. We are locals and she just bought AP's. Anyway, she was on Facebook asking for tips, and someone actually said this: "The best tip is,as soon as u get 2the magic kingdom early in the morning,go 2the castle&make reservations 4lunch.The food costs the same as the food stands, but u get 2sit down inside, all drinks r served in putter mugs&characters walk around inside." Made me LOL! I wanted to correct him but didn't want to make him look/feel stupid. Anyone else ever been given really bad advice while Disney trip planning?

Hahaha that's hilarious. I have heard things like that at work and its so hard to keep my mouth shut and not look like the "Disney Know It All" lol . When someone says to go on Expedition Everest first thing at MK, it's sooooo hard.

I was talking to a co-worker who is going during Spring Break this year. I asked where are you staying. "don't know yet, haven't booked anything". She hasn't booked a hotel, they want to stay onsite. She hasn't booked flights. My tip was if you want to go during Spring Break you need to get started. She said, no, I fly by the seat of my pants, no worries. Thought to myself okie dokie little pokie you are in for a rude awakening!

I have a co-worker who does the routinely for trips to WDW. And they have a blast. They don't worry about TS restaurants or anything. They just book a flight, stay at a value resort and buy tickets. I guess if you're not picky about where you stay and eat, it could work. :confused3 Its not for me though, I'm the uber planner.

I was advised not to use Fastpass since it cost extra :rotfl:

This. It is unreal how many people think you have to pay for this.

Granted if they do go forward with FP- then we will end up paying for it in the future somehow.

I can't believe how many people I talk to who tell me they are going in a few months but haven't booked it yet. My head nearly explodes and I have to review my color-coded spreadsheet to calm myself. :rotfl2:

Well, in fairness, I booked a last minute trip for Thanksgiving one year...literally about a week's notice. And when I spoke with a CM to make ADRs, obviously there wasn't much available, but she "found" a few tables to add to the excitement of a last minute trip and we had one of the best trips we've ever had. Now we had been there enough that I knew exactly what to do and not do even if it hadn't been planned for months. If it were a first timer, I would say no way, but if you are familiar enough and willing to go knowing you aren't going to get your first choice of dining, etc. it can actually be a lot of fun.

But for every other trip I obsessively plan for months and months and months

I remember back in the day...

MK and EPCOT, three resorts...

If you didn't book a year out, you just weren't going.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add this is a FIRST time trip for their party of 12!

Lol. Great thread. What bothers me about people that are first timers that just show up, is when they come back and are like how do you stand the heat, crowds and prices?!! Well we avoid crowds through planning , we enjoy the Florida heat., and budget for our trips so it doesnt squeeze our finances! Lol.

Believe it or not, this is still possible. I sometimes book rooms and ADRs a few weeks out, and often am able to get what I want. It may not be during Christmas or Easter, but it's not that hard most times of the year.

Last night over dinner with friends it was brought up that I went to Disney three times this past year. :woohoo: Yes, I have an addiction and have been teased by my children for the last month nonstop about it also. After the teasing last night our friends looked at me and asked if there was that much to do at Disney! :lmao: People don't get it! LOL. I'll be happy to go once this year after last year! :)

Part of the fun of Disney for me is the planning. We love talking about everything again and again beforehand. It makes the trip last longer than just the week we are actually there pixiedust:

I did that for Spring Break in '01. Called the day before we left to get a rental car and a motel and headed down!

Yes! We would plan February break at the poly one year in advance. And one year we were all booked and then my mom had to go and get pregnant in May (due in february!) lol. I can still remember my father saying, but isn't getting a new baby much better than going to Disney. Hmmm.... Just kidding. But I was very bummed out missing that trip lol.
