Just wondering if any non-profit group had ever made their own discount cards? My DD's softball team needs to do some fundraising this spring. The few month's ago, we noticed a discount card was being sold locally by a school for $5 each. You could tell it was a "do it yourself" type card. (Details printed on construction paper, then laminated, price was lower.) Just wondering what all I would need to do in order to do something like this for the ball team...

Our football parent club paid for years for an outside company to make cards. Now, they make them themselves so that all profits can bebefit the team directly. As long as all the sponsoring businesses on the card are aware of how you will be marketing the card, I would think everything would be fine.

Our school also used to pay a company to organize a walk-a-thon. They charged a fee. Now, they do it themselves and all profits support whatever cause is chosen. More money to those who need it. Good Luck.

I agree with the PP. So long as when you're talking to the local businesses that will be taking part, you're up front and let them know that you'll also be helping local businesses by making the cards yourselves, there shouldn't be a problem. If you have a local printer, they may donate the cards to your group or give you a good deal on having something printed up. If you talk to them first, they may help you out with the letters to contact the local businesses, receipts, things like that. I'd be more excited about spending money on something knowing all the proceeds were staying with the group instead of those that the group gets x% of the proceeds.

Good luck!

I think making sure the arrangements between the local bussinesses would be the most critical part. I image something in writing would be required so that both parties will honor their agreements.

Please let us know how it works out. Our Band Boosters sells discount cards, they are a great fundraiser. This year is the first year we had struggled. At first we had a hard time selling enough to cover the printing costs, but in December we were able to make a large profit.
