Fundraiser for WDW?

I am a stay at home mom (who works a few hours a week) and my DH owns his own business. Sometimes there is a lot of work for him and sometimes there is not. He recently picked up a part time job where he gets paid daily and that has been a help to us. (And who would have thought that you could make $100 just for helping someone else out?:D )

Because we got such a great rate at the Courtyard by Marriot in DTD, we decided to make a return trip to WDW this year. We have been saving change, eBaying, and using our advance tax credit for WDW. However, we have been trying to think of ways to earn extra money to make the trip even more memorable for our little girls.

Which leads to my question...Has anybody ever had a fundraiser to help pay for their trip to WDW? If so, which ones have you done? I know that the company I work for has a fundraising brochure with several different items to choose from. I thought about sending a copy of the brochure to several of my family members and friends with a letter asking for their help. They could purchase the items, and we could make some money for our trip in late September.

Please tell me what you think. Thank you!

:D

Normally fund raising is done for charity. Usually a recognized, non-profit organization in which your contribution is tax deductable. I've also seen fund raising for youth organizations (boy scouts, girl scouts, high school bands etc.)

I've never seen fund raising for adult vacations (other than things like Make-A-Wish).

Unless there was something extraordinary I don't think it's a good idea. How would you feel if a friend or co-worker run a fund raiser for to help pay for drinking, eating out, their vacations etc?

Garage sales and E-Bay sales are good ways to try to come up with some extra money.

I will have to agree with Lewisc. I do not think a fundraiser for a family vacation is appropriate, they are usually reserved for a non profit organization or something like a church youth group trip. I would stick with the previous suggestions of ebay and yardsales. Your family and friends could of course give you all an early birthday/Christmas present of cash that you could use towards your trip, but that would be up to them. I do hope you are able to raise the the money for a great trip in some way. You could also offer to babysit for some friends and family if possible to make extra money, that is how I funded our trip last year. Good luck!

Thank you for your responses. That is what I love about these boards. You can throw out an idea and get feedback on it. After reading your posts, I realize that a fundraiser for WDW really doesn't make sense. I appreciate your input! Looks like I have some eBaying to do.;) Have a great week!

You could also offer to sell items for close family members and friends on eBay. Agree on what you would charge (I've heard some charge as high as 50% (not that I'd go that high) of what an item sells for) beforehand. Decide up front, who's going to pay eBay, Paypal fees? Will these fees be paid prior to you getting your %? Just be upfront about what you want. Your family might go for this idea. They would be helping you get to Disney, but at the same time, they could get their closets cleaned out.

I also know a lady that lives in my town who places little ads on grocery store bulletin boards or anywhere she can actually (word of mouth now too), and offers to drive people who don't have a car, or or is handicapped (whatever their circumstance) to different places. She takes them to the store, for doctor's appointments, the bank. Wherever they wish to go. She doesn't make a lot of money, but it gives her and her family a little extra each week and she says that it really makes her feel good to help these people.

Many people ask family to give Disney Dollars for Birthdays and Christmas instead of presents.

Change Jars work wonders!! Either by saving change or dollar bills,or buying Disney Dollars saving for a character meal,or souvenirs, or just that extra thing you want!!

Saving money at home by not ordering in a pizzia, and put the difference of cooking a meal into the change jar. Using coupons at the grocery store and put what you save in the jar. Packing lunch's instead of buying fast food.

Evaluate each purchase with the attitude do I need this or can I live without it and save that money for WDW.
