Fun with sparklers

My son & I were playing around with sparklers tonight, so I decided to grab the camera. Here's what we came up with. Sorry for the large photos, photobucket used to have a simple small, medium, large resize option. I can't seem to figure it out now??

thanks, remember the older style sparklers. the super long metal ones. we only had a few, but those worked the best & lasted a long time compared to the paper/short ones. It was fun!

These are great! I bought a package of sparklers two weeks ago but still haven't tried this yet. Maybe tonight - you've inspired me!!

Sure, manual mode, bulb mode. I held a lighter in front of the camera & used automatic focus, then switched to manual focus. if you have vibration reduction, turn that off as well. tripod, iso: 100, f/9, remote shutter release, & I had on a 0.9 nd filter. I tripped the shutter with the remote shutter cable, lit the sparkler, & started tracing the truck with the sparkler, I had traced the truck maybe 2 times & the sparkler was still going, so i went ahead & wrote in the air facing the truck not the camera -happy 4th, & a star. then ran over & released the remote cable switch. The darker it is outside the better. you can get creative & trace whatever, or just paint the air. it's fun to see the end result!
