This year we are going to Disney World for our longest stay yet. We are staying onsite but we are looking for some fun ideas outside of the parks.

Does anyone have a suggestion for fun activities at all of the resorts (not including pools)?

We love going to other resorts to eat a meal - then go for a long walk around the resort. It's a great way to "see" other resorts! :thumbsup2

If you are at a MK resort you can watch the fireworks and electric water parade on the beach or rent a surrey bike or boat. The AKL have several viewing areas and activities for the animals. They also have a few great restaurants, which we plan on eating at Boma then checking out the animals and resort when we go.

Thanks! So far:

we are gonna watch wishes at Poly
Visit Ft. Wilderness for campfire
Maybe ride a carriage at POR or ride boat to DTD

Keep em coming!!!

The best surrey bike rental is at Boardwalk. We always stay at OKW, but that ride around the lake at the Boardwalk is a blast. So much activity and great at night. But we love the surrey bikes, so any resort that has them they are great. It's an easy way to see the resorts.

We're also big on the miniture golf courses at WDW. They are the best and most elaborately themed courses we've played on. And if you like to play the real thing, WDW golf courses are incredible. They all have rental gear and depending on time of year and time of day you play they can be very reasonable for such nice courses.

Good luck!!!

My traveling party is two middle-aged adults, and this idea may seem more geared for kids (which it could easily be) but we enjoy spending $20 at the Contemporary arcade. It's just a fun diversion...and we usually get enough tickets to get a small, otherwise useless, but special to us, momento from the prize area. Due to this, my superball collection is the envy of many.

A related activity is a cocktail at the California Grill before or after arcade. You can usually go up for a drink at the bar/lounge in early evening hours after 5pm if you check in at 2nd floor desk.

Movies on the beach in lounge chairs at BC - super fun, and open to all.

Walking the path between FW and WL (in the daylight!!) Neat woodsie walk.

Buy the book and have a scavenger hunt/search for Hidden Mickeys.
Each resort has some.

One of my favorite things to do during downtime at Disney is play checkers in the Poly lobby. The surroundings are so beautiful and my husband and I have a blast challenging each other. We also love renting the Racers out on the lake. So much fun to explore over near River Country and Discovery Island!

Hi
I know there a free campfire and sing a long with chip and dale and a free movie after at fort wilderness.
If you want to roast marshmallows, You can BYO smores or buy a kit there for $8.99
It starts at around 7 I believe and there's no reservations, first come first serve.
It's a nice easy and inexpensive Disney character experience. Hope it helped!

Oh if you want to watch wishes at the Poly you should eat dinner at Ohana before the fireworks. If you do eat there make reservations way in advance because they book up fast. Also the electrical water parade comes past there. Now I cant remember which was first wishes or the parade. If I remember right the parade came by right after the fireworks were over.
There are a lot of tours that Disney will take you on but of course they cost money and most are in the parks. There are a few that are not in the parks . I think we will do the Wild Africa Trek. But that is in the Animal Kingdom Park. Here is the link to their tours and experiences

Rent the little boats (water mice) at the Poly and go around the lake -- we tried it once and it was really fun!

Have dinner at Boma or Jiko at AKL and go out to the savanna lookouts and see how many animals you can spot.

Mini Golf at Fantasia Gardens?

Bike surrey rentals at BWI and then ride all around the lake there.

Watch the EWP from the GF, Poly, or CR.

:goodvibes

in 2010 DH and I did a trip like that! We slept in a bit ordered room service then rented a sea raycer! Later after lounging at the pool we went over to WL and had a snack and walked around!

You can do to DTD, shop, eat or play in DQ!
See La Nouba!
The Chip and Dale campfire at fort wilderness
Go see Hoop De Doo or Mickeys Backyard BBQ
Movies at DTD
Mini golf
water parks
fishing excursions
time on the resort beaches

I'm not sure which resort you're staying at.. but assuming your resort is not on the monorail.. take the bus to MK and take the boat across the Bay Lake and back. Or ride a boat from POR to DTD, so you can see the Sassagoula River.

Or how about just stay on the monorail and loop around Bay Lake a few times and then hop off at the ticket center and take the monorail loop to Epcot a few times.
