Fun for Three-year-olds?

I have a trip planning problem. My DS will be almost three at the end of August, and I will be 7 1/2 months pregnant with our second. I want to take a trip together, also including my DH and one set of grandparents - a nice bonding experience before the new baby comes. Because of work demands, the only time open to us is the middle of August, after most kids are back in school.

Am I crazy for wanting to go to Disney? I understand it will be hotter than hot. My son is pretty advanced, with a great vocabulary, so I think he will do well. My first pregnancy was event free, and I have experienced the same with this one.

I have dreamed of the day when I would be able to take my kids for their first trip to Disney. Would I be wasting that experience on a trip like this? I guess I just want to know if the experience would be able to rise above the heat, and pregnancy and my son's young age. Any advice would be appreciated.

I haven't been to WDW while pregnant, so I can't really speak to that but I would think that as long as you cleared it with your Dr. and took the propor precautions (drink pleanty of liquids and make time for breaks) then you'd probablly be fine.

The first time my DS went to WDW he was 2 1/2 and he absolutley LOVED it. He still talks about it almost daily (we went in Nov. 06). He had so much fun, as did my DH and I, that we're going back in Sept for the free dining. We all can't wait. I would think most 3 yo's would love WDW because there's so much to do, even for a 3 yo. He can ride the majority of the rides and if he may really like the shows and characters.

I cannot speak to the pregnancy aspect, but we first took DS when he was 18 months, and we went again this month (he's 3). There's just something special about taking a child who is still young enough to get fully into the magic. When DS saw Buzz Lightyear, he was in awe. Same with Mickey.

we went last year for my daughter's 2nd birthday, in March of 06 she loved it and could ride a lot of rides! we are going again at the end of August she's 3 and a half and she can't wait!

I think your DS is a perfect age to have a wonderful trip. I would however hesitate to go during August and pregnant. Clean it with you dr. Drink drink drink and make it a very slow paced laid back trip if you choose to go.

As long as your Dr. Ok's it I would definitely go. We've taken all our kids before they turned three and it was a great age to first experience the World. You will just have to pace yourself and drink more water than you ever thought possible!

:thumbsup2 If you truely want to go then I would go. If you feel good enough to do all the walking and your Dr. is A-OK with it then go for it.

I agree with pps regarding your concerns: don't let your son's age be the reason you don't take this trip. We took our first trip when DS was 3.5 and DD was 17 months. We really went for DS's benefit, but were astonished at how much DD enjoyed it as well. We'd go by certain rides and she'd flip out, trying to get out of her stroller to get on the ride. 3 is a GREAT age to go - it really is magic to them! :-)

I do share your concern regarding the heat, which is why we went in February. :-) Use your judgement on this one.
