Can anyone suggest a good place to take a family of 10 on our first night at Disney? Looking for a fun TS place to set the tone of the vacation. We've got 3 kids- 4,8,and 11 and a picky MIL :confused3. Would prefer not to do a character meal as we already have 3 booked throughout the week. Something in EPCOT or Downtown Disney would be nice.

Thanks!

For our arrival night in May we have ADRs for Teppan Edo in the Japan Pavilion. This is such a fun atmosphere and the chefs are all so hilarious. Not sure, but you may want to look at the menus to make sure everyone in your party will like the food (especially if you have a picky adult eater) also, since you have a party of 10, your group may get split up because I think the tables seat 8 (so it may not be a good suggestion afterall, sorry). Another suggestion would be Coral Reef in Epcot. There is a huge fish tank that entertains everyone and the food is good too.

We love the resturant Marakeesh in Morocco - bellydancers and music and there are kids items available. Coral Reef is another nice option in Epcot. If you are open to HS - a fun interactive meal would be 50s Prime Time and with such a large party it could be very entertaining.

You already got my best suggestions! For Epcot...

Teppan Edo - unless you already have Japanese Steakhouses at home... if you do, it's probably the same tricks. I'd want to make sure you could all be seated together. I remember the rooms being big, We had 10 adults plus DS3 in 2008 and we had a room to ourselves.

Marrakesh - one of my favorites. The music is interesting and the belly dancing fun. The belly dancer will invite some people (may be kids or adults) to come onto the floor and try and belly dance (funny!). I liked the food, but it gets mixed reviews.

Biergarten -- Buffet... but fun... German music and Dancing.

Coral Reef - this was fun for lunch, and it is interesting to watch the sea creatures, but not exactly thrilling enough if you are looking for something special.

I also suggest 50s Prime Time but I don't know that any of their "mom's kitchens" are big enough for 10... I didn't notice when we were there.

What about Whispering Canyon Cafe? IMHO, TS dining in Epcot can be pretty tricky if you have a picky eater. We haven't done any TS in DTD so I wouldn't have a clue what to suggest. WCC has plenty of "normal" food and your kids are the perfect age for the "antics". You could start your trip with some laughs and a scenic monorail ride.

I was going to recommend the same thing! If you time it right you could catch Wishes from one of the monorail resort beaches after dinner.

I think these are great places. Biergarten is another fun atmosphere. They also have music and invite guests to dance on the dance floor. Whispering Canyon was a blast! Be careful if you ask for ketchup or a spoon....

We have pictures of our DD7 dancing with the belly dancer at Marakeesh. She goes around and has the kids come out onto the dance floor with her.

We did Whispering Canyon Cafe with my Aunt and her 2 kids on their first trip about 5 years ago. It was a HUGE hit. It really set the pace for the rest of our trip and was a great way to add some fun to a travel day where we didn't visit any parks.

We did Garden Grill our first night of our trip last week. We had never been before and LOVED it! We changed dining reservations for later in the week in order to do it again.

The characters are not dealing with as many tables and seem to have a lot of fun with each other. They played hide and seek with each other or tapped the other's shoulder and ran off. It was cute and lots of fun.
