Fun AND Free?

AKL also has activities for kids. The times for the different things are posted in the lobby right next to Bell Services. Some of them are- Make cookies in Boma, Flamingo watching, Animal tracking, Songs with african instuments. And for each activity completed you receive a special bead to add to a bracelet you make from all the activities. My sister and I had more fun doing all the activities with our girls then they did. You do have to have kids for it. I have my daughter's bracelet on my fridge as my Disney reminder.
This sound likes fun. How old were your DD and DN?

On the firepits in marshmallow land. proximity to the pits really isn't important. You want a good seat for the show. Plenty of time/opportunity to roast marshmallows.

Chip N Dale make their rounds--so keep an I on where they are at.

Seating includes metal bleachers and benches. We bring a stroller for the kids.

Bring mosquito repellant...at least when it is warm.

Very fun time.

They do have a singer/guitarist who performs--while the sun is setting waiting for things to get good and dark.

Free things we have done---just about everything mentioned. I'm having a difficult time of thing of something new.

I know when we stayed at WL--you could do activities in where they do the nighttime babysitting in the afternoon. I forget the times. You must stay with your child and they had crafts and such. I am not familiar if you need to be staying at the resort, though.

One time we were at poly and you could make leis--or flower bracelets and headbands. I forget which--but this was free. And we were not staying there. Just passing through on our hotel hopping.

The leis sound fun...wonder when they do this...anyone know?
Great ideas everyone...just the information I was looking for! Thanks DISer's! :jumping1:

We were leaving from a late sitting at O'Hana when we stopped and took part of the leis making in 10/04. I would guess somewhere around 12 noon. We made two leis and a bracelet. Until recently, I had one on my mirror to remind me of our trip.

We did the leis too, even told them we were not guests, but the CM said "no problem cousin!" We started cracking up! I think it was mid afternoon also, must've been near the end as we saw a few kids wearing there's.

About AKL activities- I don't know if you need to be a guest. I was never asked for my room key or anything. I know you can't pool hop there though.

My DD was 2 1/2 and my DN was 4. They loved it. We actually went back again last year when DD was 3. Still had a great time. Most of the other kids doing the activities were older. 8 - 12.

Have fun.

Something that's "free" after you enter the parks is the Kidcot program, if they still have it. Made my boys (at the time 6 & 8) much for interested in the countries around EPCOT. They get to collect stamps/stickers and then feathers/beads/etc. from the different countries. Some of the CM's had the kids ask them a question about their country/language/culture before giving them the stamps.
I've always found it interesting to walk about and see the brinks in the Walk.
You used to be able to take the water taxi back and forth from what was then Dixie Landings. That was a fun little boat ride all in itself.
Lego Center, big hit for my family too.
I thought there used to be a number of free "exploration" or discovery centers/kiosks in Animal Kingdom, too. When we were there, we got to see a snake's shed skin. The kids thought that was pretty cool.

Check out below from the "All Ears Net" site. We did the free Wilderness Lodge tour when we stayed there last November. You do not have to be a guest of the hotel to take this tour - you just need to get there early enough. We really enjoyed this tour.

What special tours and programs are offered at the WLodge?

"Wonders of the Lodge" tour is offered at 9 am on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. This tour is about the architecture and how the Lodge was built, takes you outside, talks about landscaping, and then goes back inside and talks about the artwork like the metal work and the Totem Poles and the paintings.

"I just wanted to add my $0.02 worth about the tours. They were great! There were only two other people on the tours with my friend and I. (LLBunky)

This tour is quite informative and fun, especially if Stan is your guide! If Stan is your Tour Guide -- PLEASE tell him Deb says HELLO!
