Just wondering, where is your favorite place to go and do things around the Disney properties that are FREE?

I think we'll try that free marshmellow roast this year with Chip and Dale.

Anyone else have suggestions?

:cheer2:

My girls love to go play in the water fountains at Downtown Disney.

The marshmallow roast is at Ft. Wilderness. You can bring your own stuff or pay 5.00 for the "fixins" including s'mores. There's a sing-a-long and a Disney movie- all outdoors. My two DSs loved it and now so does DD. Chip and Dale put in an appearance. It's lots of fun and either free(bring your own) or a minimal 5 bucks a person. IMHO it's one of the best kept secrets at WDW. SHHHHH!!!

We usually head to the Poly one night to watch EWP from the beach at 9pm.

We also usually go buy a drink & snack at the shop in the lobby on the second floor to bring out to the beach with us.

If your lucky enough to get a spot early, you can get a free candy art lollipop from the japanese lady at epcot (in japan). She has a cart that says "candy art" on it, and her hours are posted near the cart. She shapes the candy into all different animals, it's amazing, but she only does 8 at a showing. You have to get there early and stand right in the front of her cart.

I love the boardwalk. You can just walk around and there are street performers all over. They are great for kids and adults. Last time I was there I saw a ton of them.

We had to fill 2 days with free things one time!
Ride the Monorail
Ride the Friendship Boats/ WL boats to CR or MK, then watch the MK fireworks, and immediately after watch the EWP along the lake.
Do lots of swimming if the weather allows
Tour the resorts, AK is especially nice as you can go to the observation areas and really enjoy it. Do the hidden Mickey searches at the resorts. You do not have to be staying at them to wander the grounds.
The petting zoo is nice at FW, and since you will be trying the marshmallow roast anyway....
will you be there over the Christmas Holiday? The Dolphin has a tree lighting ceremony in the lobby that is pretty neat
We drove from Il to FL 2 Christmases ago and stopped at the Dolphin for 3 nights, but could not afford to do the parks. We did all of the above things, went ot DTD and spent some time talking with the animators at the shops, and kids played at Lego store, rode the boat to POR and walked the grounds, rode the monorail a LOT, just love it, and hit the Boardwalk too. We grabbed breakfast at the Boardwalk Bakery and the kids fed the birds ( do this at your own risk!) You can see Illuminations from the bridge at the Boardwalk, BEAUTIFUL!While it was EXTREMELY hard to be there at Christmas and still not go into the parks, I think we really took advantage of free things. At the time the Dolphin had pool tables available too, at $2 a game, we did that, but those are gone now.
The next year we went back 12/19/-12/28...and hit the parks everyday! While you can certainly find things to do without ever entering the parks, it was way more fun to be able to!

Celebration has "snow" downtown at nights during the month of December.....

Free holiday alternative to MVMCP....

go to the pool and relax!
ride the monrail -- especially at night.
watch the disney movies of tv at night.
at Riverside, go see Bob the Entertainer.
walk around at Downtown Disney. Sometimes they have live music.

Spend the evening at AKL and go to the viewing areas for zebras and giraffes, sit by the fire outside and listen to stories, take part in the lobby parade. Wander around the lobby and gift shop.

Ok, shhhhing aside :rolleyes1 do you need reservations? What time of night is it? Will it be available in January?
Thanks a bunch! :jumping1:

AKL also has activities for kids. The times for the different things are posted in the lobby right next to Bell Services. Some of them are- Make cookies in Boma, Flamingo watching, Animal tracking, Songs with african instuments. And for each activity completed you receive a special bead to add to a bracelet you make from all the activities. My sister and I had more fun doing all the activities with our girls then they did. You do have to have kids for it. I have my daughter's bracelet on my fridge as my Disney reminder.

Last time we were at Disney we just didn't find the time...but no reservations are NOT needed. Apparently you just show up. I plan to call the campground and get an approximate start time (not sure if it changes depending on the season). And of COURSE...bring your OWN sticks and marshmellows...much cheaper that way :goodvibes

Sounds GREAT :cool1: . But do you have to be staying there? Because right now we plan to stay at Shades of Green.

About the sing-a-long campfire, plan on getting there early. THere are only 2 small firepits and people tend to sit around them and never move so you are trying to squeeze inbetween them to roast your marshmellow and take it out. It gets very crowded there.

Also they are metal bleachers so bring blankets or something comfy to sit on.

You can also make cookies in The Land at the junior chef.

As far as I know, you just have to stay at any onsite hotel - now who knows that may not be a requirement. We last did this about 2 years ago.
