Looking for ideas on fun, cheap and/or free games we can play for our small office Christmas party. We have approx 30 people total. We haven't had a Christmas party the past 2 years due to finances, but this year we are having a party at the office, during the day. (so no drinking games! LOL :lmao:)

Any ideas? Our dept (3 gals total) is in charge of the "entertainment" and they are wanting games to win prizes such as extra vacation days, 1/2 day vacation, etc....

The only thing I could come up with is musical chairs. :confused3 Also should mention we (the 3 in charge of entertainment) will be traveling two hours to this party. We are in a satelite office, so storing and transporting bigger items is going to be a problem.

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Go to nbc.com and look for the Minute to Win It page. There are blueprints for a BUNCH of their games. They use common household items you can scrounge up or buy cheap. I did that for family camp activity last summer with about 40 people 10 and up. It was so much fun! I divided the people into 5 teams and they sent a representative up for each game but you could do it differently since you have real prizes. Our prize for the winning team was "100 Grand" candy bars.

I just looked them over and looked for the easier ones that didn't need a lot of supplies. I also tested them with the kids and we made some modifications after testing. Some of the ones we used that I remember the names were Back Flip, Penny Hose, Defying Gravity (but we used only 2 balloons and that was hard enough), Play It by Ear (we used yogurt cups to put the pennies in and labeled the inside of the lid with the number of pennies). Another good laugh getter is the one where you set up pop cans and they have to knock them over with a yo-yo hanging from the back of their waist (we used a yarn ball).

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I was just grateful someone on DISboards suggested this to me. It was such a hit we are going to do it again next year.

A good team game, but you would need different prizes fit for a team (giant candy bars, movie tickets, etc) is Pictionary. Split up the group into 2 - 3 teams...get an easle for each group (if two just have them facing opposite directions so the teams can only see their drawer) and give each the same Christmas saying or word (like 'Tiny Tim' or 'Santa Claus is coming to town').

I did a CHRISTMAS SPECIAL TRIVIA game one time - just a sheet with like 20 - 30 questions on it. Like:
From the Christmas special The Year Without a Santa Claus:
What are the name of the two elves Mrs. Claus asks for help? (answer: Jingle and Jangle)
What is the name of the town where Ignatious Thistlewhite lives? (answer: SOuthtown, USA)

People really liked this and it's easy as all you need is paper and pencils. First one to get all correct wins OR a time limit and whoever gets the most right in 10 minutes wins.

This one is good for a few laughs:

CHRISTMAS DRAW ON YOUR HEAD GAME
Objective: Players draw Xmas pictures on paper on top of their heads. Points are scored on the quality of the drawing.

Rules: Everyone places a large book on their head with a piece of blank paper on it. They each have a pen. The host then gives a series of instructions. Without looking, the players draw onto their page, which is over their head. Here are the instructions:

1. Draw a line for a floor
2. Draw a Christmas Tree.
3. Draw a star on top of your tree.
4. Draw a fireplace with a mantel next to the tree.
5. Draw a stocking hanging from the mantel of your fireplace."
6. Draw a present below the tree.

Have everyone remove their pictures from their heads. It can be pretty funny to see what you have drawn.

Scoring: The host now offers points for random hits.

1. 2 points if the tree touches the floor.
2. 2 points if your stocking is touching your mantel
3. 1 point if your star touches your tree.
4. 1 point if your star is above your tree
5. 1 point for every Christmas ornament ball that is ON your tree, etc.
6. 1 point if your fireplace doesn't touch the tree (it's a fire hazard!)
7. 1 point if you actually drew something decorative on your stocking.
8. 2 point if your present if under your tree.

The winner is then the person with the most points.

I was going to say trivia.

You could either do Christmas trivia questions like someone else mentioned or pop culture trivia.

There are probably questions online you could find by googling.

You could also do some board games without the board. For example ones with instruction cards, scattergories, taboo, things like that.

I've had fun with several different office groups playing variations on Pictionary, in teams. At one job, we ended up having a 3-day long battle that involved half the building!! I'm not sure just what the bosses were thinking when they allowed that - but then again, they were playing with us!!

We just did this at a Halloween party and it was a riot. Put rice and closed tiny safety pins in a bowl and without looking try and grab as many pins as possible with one hand. They are soooo hard to dig out because it all feels the same! It is fun to watch too!

Fill out "Hello My Name Is" badges with the names of holiday characters, like Santa, Dasher, Clark Griswald ;)... and stick one on each persons back as they enter they party. They must figure out who they are by asking other people yes/no questions, but they can only ask each person one question. We did this to encourage people from different departments to mingle during the cocktail hour before dinner and they received a drink coupon for a second cocktail (company sponsored 2 drinks per person) once they figured out who they were. It was fun.

idk if this is something that will work for you guys as everyone kinda has to be paying attention at the same time. It's called " WHO SAID THAT!". write a question ( enough for each person to answer. in your case 30 of them) on a slip of paper or an index card. Number them & fold the cards and either pass them out randomly or put in a bowl and have guests pick one. Each guest will write their answer on the card and sign it, then put it in a return only bowl. The MC of the game will be the only one allowed to read the finished cards. When all the cards are returned, each guest gets a sheet of paper numbered 1-30. The MC will read the number, the question and then the answer. Not the person's name though. Guests will write down the name on their sheet of who they think said that. After going through the cards, MC will then reveal the answers. Everyone is guaranteed to get at least 1 right. lol

Example of questions I used ( kinda tame for my younger guests but... )
what is 1 thing most ppl don't know about you?
my secret talent is......
i will never admit to it but i cried when........
my grandmothers middle name is
